NEW YEARS

The Significance of the Chinese Lunar New Year

By Dr. Mao Shing Ni

The 2024 Chinese Lunar New Year officially starts on February 10.

It is also known as the Spring Festival, a lively and profoundly meaningful celebration observed by over one billion people around the world. Imbued with tradition and cultural symbolism, this celebration holds great significance, marking the beginning of a new lunar year based on the traditional Chinese calendar. The festivities last 15 days and are filled with rituals, actions and special foods, each carrying special meanings that reflect aspirations, mindset, and cultural beliefs. Click here for my 2024 astrological forecast based on the traditional Chinese calendar.

1. Renewal and Fresh Start:

Fundamentally, Chinese New Year is the theme of renewal and fresh starts. Families gather to say goodbye to the old year, letting go of past year’s negativities and welcome the new one by inviting positive energy with optimism and excitement for the new year. Join us for a spiritual renewal ceremony live casted online Feb 4 at 10 am. Here is the link: Annual Chinese New Year Celebration - Yo San University

2. Red, Red and Red is Everywhere:

Red is the prevalent color during Chinese New Year as it symbolizes joy, luck and prosperity. Everywhere you see homes, offices and streets decorated with red posters adorned with calligraphy of blessings like health, good fortune and peace, lanterns, and other ornaments to attract positive and joyful energy while warding off negative, evil energy. Natural essential oil scents are also used to subtly reinforce positive five element energies in one’s life. These are in accordance with Feng Shui principles. Check out feng shui blessings for the new year for your home and office here.

WORK TO SERVE AND TEACH

As Above So Below

and

As Below So Above

by Alannah Fitzgerald

Many of us are familiar with the old axiom, "As above so below, as below so above." We could interchange this to be, As inside ourselves, so outside ourselves.

With the approaching Chinese Lunar New Year hailing the beginning of spring, I invite you to pause and reflect on how our inner spiritual life corresponds with our outer earthly life. How does our physical life environment harmonize with our spiritual focus and practices? Honest reflections of each dimension can move us to examine ourselves more deeply. If we are open to it, this can propel us to look at the impact of the people we surround ourselves with and make beneficial and meaningful changes as needed. As Grand Master Ni, Yo San has taught, "Love having friends but be selective."

In clearing out our physical space, we can harmonize our mental, emotional and spiritual life as well. I have been assisting a friend in going through and sorting personal belongings that he has not looked at in many years. He unearthed many forgotten treasures and has been able to release a massive amount of possessions that he no longer has any need for. He reports an amazing new freedom and liberation in going through this process.

Our consciousness is manifested in our personal world in every moment. We can all become positive, conscious co-creators of our growth and awakenings, leading us to a more cherished life. May each day be your Masterpiece!

Edward Sullivan's selection is from Hua-Ching Ni’s book, Workbook for Spiritual Development of All People, p 117, Invocation for Eliminating Overactive Sexual Desire.

"I hadn’t read this Invocation for quite some time and it's deeper meaning of the mystical intercourse and the creation of the Red Baby impressed me reading it again. Oddly enough, in a different study group, we have been discussing this same topic from the book called, The Life and Teaching of Two Immortals, Volume I, Kou Hong by Hua-Ching Ni.

The reason I selected this Invocation is that I always considered the discussion of the Red Baby and Mystical Intercourse as an advanced, esoteric meditation. It seems to be a fascinating subject to a lot of people, but I was reminded that he explains all the mysteries of the universe to a young student, and then says, “Now I want you to forget all this and just live a simple life. Don’t even make it your goal.”  But, I was impressed with the approach to calming ones sexual desire is to understand the preciousness of the sexual energy and it’s amazing potential. So, even if we don’t create Immortality there seems to be a lot of benefits for following it’s guidelines. Below is a Link for the Invocation on page 117.

Thailand Retreat Reflections

Thailand Retreat by Barbara Wolff

Eight students from four continents gathered together on Geng Shen day in December 2023 to begin the inaugural Integral Way retreat at the Ba Gua Resort in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Founded and created by James Tuggle, the Resort’s main octagonal house became our shrine where we sat, mostly silently, in the early morning and evening around the eight-pointed star. The powerful flow of the Mae Kok River, some 50 meters away, and the light of the North Star directly overhead, accompanied and supported us. It was a time of deep refreshment and transformation.

Moon Bathing
The light of the moon and sun are different. Sunlight is generally good for our body provided prolonged or high levels of radiation are avoided, while moonlight is an effective medicine for our brain.
If all people knew how to use the moon to reform their aggressive mentality at least 30% of the unneeded frustrations & suffering in the world could be avoided. Moonlight also helps our memory, but we should not wait until we start to lose it!
Absorbing appropriate amounts of moonlight can benefit our mind and temperament.
Five Healths for a New Humanity  by Hua-Ching Ni & Mao Shing Ni, p 216

Moon Cultivation
Use the moon cycle to help your cultivation. You can take lunar energy in the same way as solar energy. Begin at the time of the new moon and go until five days after the full moon. After that, the moon’s energy is not strong anymore.
To take in the moon’s energy, you face the moon when it is just rising, gently breathe in the lunar energy and swallow it.
If you do this faithfully for three years, your face will have a light. Natural energy can be accumulated and grow, so that when your body fails, you have an energy house built from the natural energy you have gathered, along with your personal refined energy. You can then move into the subtle sphere of life as a heavenly being of light.

Brothers of the Heavenly Way

BROTHERS MEETING

This month’s Brothers Meeting on January 7th, 2024 kicked off with a discussion of social pressures and how they can interfere with your cultivation. It takes some strength to ignore the social expectations of one’s friends, family and even the greater culture who all subtly pressure you to be something. This discussion turned inward to the topic of how even your own mind can interfere with the good management of your cultivation. For instance, your mind can make you feel guilty about how long or how well you are practicing. If we are to manage the proper nurturing of our internal energy, we need to free ourselves from all such pressures.

We turned our attention to the text, Eternal Light, Teachings of my Father

by Ni, Hua-Ching, number 33 on page 39. This paragraph presents the Long Living Truth as the true standard for human life. Human culture is not the standard, even though people act as though it is. A question arose: How do you properly navigate this disconnect? We all agreed not to trust the rational mind as it will muddy the natural energy that is before you. It seemed that proper self-correction can only occur if you are quiet within. Then you can know what to do.

The Brothers meet via Zoom the first Sunday of every month. Next meeting is February 4th. Please join us: contact Curt Callison at: chcallison@gmail.com
