RI Seafood is going to SENA!

RI Seafood is excited to announce that for the first year ever, in collaboration with RI Commerce, we will have a booth at the Seafood Expo North America (SENA) in Boston! The convention will run from March 10-12, and is North America’s largest seafood trade exposition. Exhibitors from over 50 countries come together to discover, sample, network, and source seafood.

We would love to connect with any partners or individuals that will be in attendance! If you are a RI Seafood business going to the show, feel free to stop by at Booth #2575 to meet with buyers and conduct business. You can find us at booth #2575 featuring American Mussel Harvesters, Tony’s Seafoods, Dune Bros., and Metro Lobster and Seafood. Stop by at booth #2133, the Town Dock, which will be showcasing RI’s famous calamari!

RI Seafood would like to extend our gratitude to Rhode Island Commerce for making our attendance at the Seafood Expo North America possible. With their help, we will be at booth #2575 at SENA, March 10-12, getting the opportunity to connect with new and existing Rhode Island businesses! Stop by and learn more about RI Seafood and the various seafood businesses we are partnered with throughout the Ocean State.

RI Seafood is seeking seasonal interns!

Seasonal policy interns for RI Seafood will be responsible for tabling at events and at the Port of Galilee on the weekends to educate the public on the importance of consuming and buying local seafood. Interns will be expected to work between 25 – 30 hours per week but could vary. Typical event coverage is in the evenings and on weekends. Seasonal interns will be expected to work a full time schedule the week of Quahog Week in mid-May. Interns will also be responsible for managing the public materials, information, obtaining emails for the RI Seafood monthly newsletter, and talking with the public about where to find the best (and local) seafood. This position will be open from April to the end of July.

Newport Burger Bender

Join Discover Newport in their Newport Burger Bender, the “best burger” contest. From February 16th to 25th, local restaurants (52 to be exact) are throwing their buns in the ring with hopes of being crowned the Best Burger and there is more than just beef, including seafood burgers; our favorite! While RI Seafood isn’t voting on the burgers, our vote is a burger featuring local seafood! Some locations with seafood burgers include Bar and Board Bistro with their crab cake burger, Boat House Waterfront dining and their ground tuna patty, and Le Central with a tuna burger!

Faces of RI Fishers

and Growers

#DYK that there are more than 2,000 commercial fishing licenses purchased byfishermen in the state?

Commercial fishermen are defined as people whose livelihood depends on the harvesting of shellfish, finfish, or other renewable products of the sea, including aquaculture. Because of these men and woman, we get access to fresh and local seafood daily in the Ocean State!

* Projections are based off monthly landing reports from the Division of Marine Fisheries from 2023. Data is subject to the Rule of Three, which requires that all data points be aggregated to include at minimum, three harvesters, three vessels, and three dealers to be considered non-confidential.*
