Description:

Trauma in the playroom can have a dark, heavy feel to it. Even the most experienced Play Therapists can sometimes feel overwhelmed or helpless. Explore a "Bottom Up" approach to trauma in play therapy from a neuro-bio perspective. Explore the left and right hemispheres and lower and upper brains. Explain why CCPT helps trauma heal and what activities serve which part of the brain during a play therapy session. Feel empowered as a play therapist because you finally understand the why, what and when of a trauma play therapy session


Objectives:

  • Assess for potential trauma risk factors and symptoms with play therapy clients and their parents/caregivers
  • Explain the importance of regulation, attachment, the brain and nervous system, and safety in relation to trauma processing in the playroom
  • Identify 5 indicators that play might be communicating or processing trauma and how/when to communicate trauma play to parents
  • Describe 5 play therapy interventions from both an ecosystemic as well as a child-centered approach for facilitating trauma processing in the playroom
  • Identify the importance of regulation, attachment, the brain and the nervous system in relation to processing trauma in the playroom
  • Identify the science of safety and why safety is the foundation for success in the play room

Gabrielle Anderson, LMFT, RPT-S™, the teacher for this training is a previous board member for the Virginia Play Therapy Association. She is a therapist for children, teens and adults and enjoys weaving play therapy and other expressive modalities into sessions when appropriate. Gabrielle also runs supervision groups for those in training to become an RPT™

Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.


CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund.
