GGUSD Highlights Class of 2024 Valedictorians

This week, GGUSD began featuring valedictorian videos on our Facebook page to highlight the success of these impressive scholars. In this video, we feature Santiago High School's valedictorians who have achieved outstanding academic excellence and earned scholarships to attend UCLA and Vanderbilt! GGUSD and 29 Schools Recognized for High Achievement

We are proud to be named a California Honor Roll District, a recognition from Educational Results Partnership (ERP) which recognizes school districts and schools that have outperformed their peers in closing achievement gaps particularly among higher-poverty student populations. We're also proud that 29 GGUSD schools were named CA Honor Roll Schools for best practices that improve student outcomes!

GGUSD Hosts Breakfast for Legislators Event

Thank you to our city, county, state and federal elected officials who attended GGUSD's Breakfast for Legislators! Superintendent, Dr. Gabriela Mafi, provided an update on GGUSD accomplishments and facilitated a discussion about how we can continue to work together to serve our students, families and communities! Board of Education President Teri Rocco also attended to connect with other leaders and show her support! We are very grateful for the partnerships of our community leaders!

GGUSD Superintendent Honored with Valuing Diversity Award

The Association of California School Administrators Region 17 hosted its 2024 Administrators of the Year celebration recently and honored Superintendent, Dr. Gabriela Mafi, with the Valuing Diversity Award for her exemplary leadership fostering a districtwide culture and climate that celebrates diversity and implementing systems that ensure success for ALL students! Serving her 11th year as Superintendent, Dr. Mafi is passionate about expanding opportunities for ALL students and celebrating the rich diversity of GGUSD in a way that empowers students and families. Dr. Mafi’s leadership style has focused on collaboration, transparency, and a deep understanding of the diverse needs within the community. We are so proud of Dr. Mafi and all she and the GGUSD Board of Education do to advocate for ALL students!

KCAL News Features Fitz Mariachi Program

This week, Luzdelia Caballero from KCAL News profiles Fitz Intermediate Language Academy as one of the many schools where mariachi legend Jose Hernandez's foundation is helping children learn, develop confidence and grow a passion for music through la Cultura Mexicana.

Stanley Elementary School Hosts Open House

🏫🎉Stanley Elementary School recently opened its doors for an amazing Open House showcasing student learning, vibrant classrooms, dedicated teachers, and innovative programs! We love seeing our schools engage families and proudly share what students have learned this past year #GGUSDPride #GGUSDGoalGetters🍎📚

Paine Elementary School Receives Top School Award

Paine Elementary School was presented with the Top School Award for raising over $7,000 for the American Heart Association.🏆👏 In addition to raising funds for research and supporting those with special hearts, students and families participated in the Kids Heart Challenge. This is a fun program that prepares students for a healthy future by emphasizing the importance of exercise and mental health. Many Paine families learned CPR through the program. 🌟As a reward for exceeding expectations, students got the opportunity to dunk Principal Santana!🌊

GGUSD Student Honored as a Semi-Finalist for Orange County

Artist of the Year Competition

Recently, Pacifica High School Student, Evelyn Nguyen, was honored at Chapman University for being selected as a semi-finalist in the Orange County Artist of the Year Competition. Evelyn has been a member of the Pacifica Encore the last four years and we cannot express how proud we are of her achievements! Go Evelyn!

GGUSD Celebrates May as Asian American-Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is Asian American-Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and as part of our annual social media campaign, we will be spotlighting AAPI staff and students. GGUSD is proud of our diversity including that 35% of our student population is Asian. We love joining with our communities to celebrate our diverse cultures and providing ALL students with safe and welcoming schools (Goal 2🟢). This highlight comes from Jerry, a student from Jordan Intermediate School!

GGUSD Receives $12 Million Community Schools Grant

GGUSD was awarded a nearly $12 million grant through the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) to fund eight Community Schools over the next five years. Community Schools focus on partnering with community agencies and local government to align community resources to improve student outcomes.
