Flavors of Faith -- Finding Connection at the Table

Join us as the UUCA teens lead us through the ways in which food connects us to the earth and to each other. Special music provided by the Junior Choir. Since we will be spending the morning thinking about food, we challenge everyone in the congregation to bring items to stock the Little Free Pantry for the summer. If you are in town for the summer, consider signing up as a pantry steward. This is the start of only ONE Service.

May Share the Plate Recipient: ALIVE!

This month UUCA is Sharing the Plate with ALIVE!, a non-profit organization serving low-income persons in Alexandria. Since 1990 UUCA has partnered with ALIVE! to provide people with critical essentials such as food and shelter. The organization is a multi-faith effort of 50 affiliated churches and congregations.

ALIVE! offers basic services to alleviate the suffering caused by poverty and creates paths out of poverty. They provide transitional shelter, and advocate for solutions and programs that address basic human needs. At the local level they bring together diverse faith traditions to provide services for the newly arrived, long-time disadvantaged, disabled and low-income elderly -- by sharing values, aspirations and faith in one another they create and nurture community. Please join them in Fellowship Hall after services to learn more about ALIVE!, its programs and volunteer opportunities.

Your donation will help ALIVE! continue to help the thousands of individuals it now serves monthly - with food, transitional shelter, financial help, eviction prevention assistance, and used, but good, furniture & housewares.

This month we are collecting personal hygiene items to help program participants stretch their dollars. Please place your donations in the designated bins in our foyer. We particularly need: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner.

Our guest scientist is Dr. Michael Dine, a renowned physicist who did groundbreaking work in modern elementary particle physics during his career at UC Santa Cruz. Speaking publicly together for the first time, Dr. Dine’s spouse, Rabbi Melanie Aron, will respond with a Jewish perspective on questions of eternity. A reception will follow at 6 pm. We're asking people to register here so we know what to expect.

Wheel of Life

If you have personal news to share, such as births, graduations, special moments, or challenges, email careteam@uucava.org for support, or kackerman@uucava.org with announcements.

Are You In Need of Support?

Care Team Hotline: 571-277-4428 | careteam@uucava.org

When you attend a church for the first time, one of the questions you might ask is, do the people here look out for one another? At UUCA we have created a network of caring connections that will provide a supportive, compassionate presence when you may be struggling, alone, or in pain.

Our Care Team responds to concerns through careful listening, checks on you if you are ill and need help, is there to help you through life’s transitions, and provides food and other support services when you need that extra helping hand.

Our UUCA Ministers offer that unique spiritual guidance you might be looking for, and also offer one-on-one support when you may be facing an especially difficult time.
