Pocono Plateau’s Mission Statement:

To provide welcoming spaces immersed in natural surroundings for all to experience the Spirit of God and love of Jesus through community, recreation, and reflection.

Hello Friends!

We are well into a new year here at Pocono Plateau. We give thanks for the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and guests. We ended the year in a favorable financial position and look forward to a year of recovery and growth.

I recently spoke with a friend and colleague from my former corporate finance career. While I shared about the joys of being involved in this amazing ministry, I could tell he did not understand. What was amazing about this salary? Why would I want to move my family to an area that barely has internet and where uber eats does not deliver? What is it about this life that brings joy and a sense of fulfillment?

Through this conversation, I recognized he had never experienced being part of a camp or retreat community. He had never lived out the powerful transformation that happens in these sacred places. But my friends, you have. Your children have. And we invite you to share with us about you experiences.

I am looking for stories! Stories of how this ministry impacted your life, shaped your faith, and made you who you are today. We believe stories are the best way to share with others who have not experienced for themselves. From these stories, we hope to give a glimpse into why this ministry matters in building up disciples and providing a place for reflection and spiritual development. We will share these stories on our website and in communications. Click on the button below to tell us your story!

"You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts."

~ 2 Corinthians 3:2-3

May you find joy and peace in this New Year!

The weekend closes with worship, led this year Plateau Staff and Rev. Candy LaBar from Wesley Church in Bethlehem.

STAFF HIGHLIGHT

God opens doors, we get to walk through them.

Looking back on my life the last few years, God has opened many doors for me, it usually is not in ways that you expect it.

My parents met at camp here in the early 90’s and they had always brought me and my siblings to camp here and eventually I was a CILT and counselor too. Coming to camp was always my favorite week of the year. Through the many great counselors I had at camp, I felt inspired to go to school for Youth Ministry. I never doubted for a second that I would get to do camping ministry one day.

Starting in 2021, God opened a door for me to get my first camping ministry job as the Assistant Site Manager at East Bay Camp in central Illinois. I loved my time there, I loved the people there, and I loved the area too. But there was always this feeling that something just wasn’t right. And I quickly realized that something was that East Bay, was not Pocono Plateau. I found myself thinking and saying “this is what we did at Pocono Plateau” all the time.

One day at work in the summer of 2022, I thought to myself “I wonder what’s been going on at Pocono Plateau”. So, I looked at the Facebook page and the website and noticed there was a job posting. I stopped what I was doing and just said “God please open this door, because I would love to have this job”. The next day I sent in my application and resume, did a couple of interviews that week, and a week later I was offered the job as Program Manager at Pocono Plateau.

God’s timing is perfect, he’ll open doors for us, but it’s our job to walk through the door. In my case I ran through that door and I haven’t looked back! Look out for doors that God may open in your own lives, take that leap of faith, trust that the plan is good.

Blessings,

Danny
