Farm and Food Worker Relief Program
PBC Community Action in partnership with Coalition of Florida Farmworker Organization, Inc. is assisting in providing this one time $600 payment from the USDA to eligible farmworkers. The relief is intended to defray costs for reasonable and necessary personal, family or living expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These payment will be available to eligible farm and food workers who performed work in farming activities and meatpacking during the period 1/27/2020 – 05/9/2023. Workers will need to provide sufficient proof of employment during the period and also identity when applying.

Office of Equal Opportunity Announces RFP for the Handicap Accessibility Awareness Grant for FY 2025
The Handicap Accessibility and Awareness Grant Program will improve accessibility and increase awareness for the approximately 107,000 disabled persons living in Palm Beach County. Proposed slated funding is $30,000. The grant program will enable any nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency in Palm Beach County, that provides service to persons with disabilities, to apply for funding to improve accessibility and equal opportunity and/or increase public awareness for persons with disabilities.

Palm Beach County Lifts Blue-Green Algae Alert for Lake Okeechobee-Pahokee Marina
The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County (DOHPalm Beach) lifted the health alert issued on May 7, 2024, for harmful blue-green algae toxins in Lake Okeechobee-Pahokee Marina. Follow-up water samples tested by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) did not detect algae toxins, indicating the public may resume water-related activities.

Board of County Commissioners Approves Funding for Over 440 Affordable/Workforce Housing Units
In November 2022, Palm Beach County residents passed a historic $200M Bond Referendum aimed at increasing the stock of workforce and affordable housing. Through a
competitive process, 3 Bond funded projects were conceptually approved at the May 7, 2024 Board of County Commissioner’s Meeting, and additional projects were approved through other County funding sources.

Children's Services Council Book Giveaway & Pop-up Event
Children's Services Council will give away 2,000 books to area kids to promote literacy and inspire a love of reading among the children of the Glades. The event will also feature a community resource fair with agencies such as Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, 211, the Early Learning Coalition, and The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, among others. Additional attractions include music, snacks, face painting, the County Playmaker van, the Sheriff's therapy dogs, and plenty of fun. A highlight of the event will be the 'Celebrity Readings,' where Palm Beach media personalities will read books to children from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.

Glades Lake Region Presents: The Truth About the Youth Teen Summit
Glades/Lake Region The Truth About The Youth Teen Summit will be held August 2-4 for youth in grades 6th-12th! Registered youth will participate in informative workshops on Mental Health, College Preparation, Gang Prevention, Racial Equity, Crime Prevention, Careers in Trades, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship. There will also be a Jam Off, food and snacks, and each participant will receive a Summit t-shirt and other supplies. Community Resources for youth will be available, and a special session for parents only will be available on August 4.
