Meet Jessica, APDA Intern. She's Designing
a Fall Prevention Program!
Hello! My name is Jessica Daniel, and I will be interning with the Missouri Chapter of the APDA for the next 3 months!

I am originally from Lexington, Kentucky, where I lived until I graduated high school. In 2021, I graduated from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, where I majored in Biology and minored in Psychology. Upon graduation, I moved here to pursue my Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Washington University from St. Louis.

As part of my capstone project for my doctorate, I am working with Amanda Landsbaum on developing a fall prevention workshop for people with Parkinsons Disease and their care partners. I will be in the Chesterfield office on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the end of July. I am very excited to be here and to get to know everyone!

Falling can be a frequent occurrence and a big concern of many people living with Parkinson Disease (PD), and older adults in general. While many fall prevention programs exist, there is not one that is designed to address the specific needs and concerns of people living with PD. As PD affects movement, it comes with its own unique challenges and risks when it comes to falling.

Help Jessica in developing the Fall Prevention Workshop by filling out a survey:

The Missouri Chapter of the APDA is developing a fall prevention workshop designed for people living with PD and their care partners. As part of this process, we are sending out this 5-7 minute Fall Prevention Survey that helps ensure that we address the concerns and interests you may have. The results will be used for a fall prevention workshop that will be held this summer. Thank you for your time in filling out this survey!

There has been a lot of news recently about biomarkers and possible new ways of testing for Parkinson’s disease (PD). A biomarker is a measurable characteristic in the body that indicates that disease is present. Certain biomarkers can even measure how advanced a disease is. The biomarker landscape has been rapidly evolving over the last few years and APDA is bringing a prominent expert right to your homes to make sure you understand the exciting changes.

Join us on May 9, 2024, at 2 PM ET / 11 AM PT, as the Chairman of APDA’s Scientific Advisory Board, Dr. David Standaert gives us a primer on biomarkers for PD and answers your questions about this hot topic.

You will learn:
  • Why are biomarkers for PD so important?
  • Are there tests that can determine whether I have PD?
  • If so, why hasn’t my doctor ordered one and should I ask to get one?
  • What is a seed amplification assay?
  • Can a skin biopsy determine if I have PD?
  • What are the limitations of these tests?

Dr. Standaert will also answer your questions LIVE during the program, so register today to reserve your spot!
