Teacher Appreciation Week
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Here at Northwood School, everyone is a teacher, whether their job title includes the word or not. All adults in our school serve as role models, mentors, and educators. Our custodial staff help to teach students responsibility and safety. Our office staff help to teach them about respect and communication. Our paraprofessional staff teach students a variety of social, academic, and self-regulation skills. Our related service providers teach them many skills needed to succeed in social interactions and academic challenges as well as how to take care of themselves physically and emotionally. Classroom teachers, related arts teachers, interventionists, and special educators teach students the critical skills and concepts of their domains along with life skills. Our staff and faculty do all of this with humor, compassion, patience, and relentless commitment to doing the absolute best they can for kids.
Being an educator is a career that extends well beyond the work day. In addition to their regular hours, they are often working while they're at home, coming in early, staying late, attending evening events, cheering kids on at games, and taking workshops or graduate courses. Our teachers commit to their jobs with their whole selves. Whether they’re within the four walls of the school or not, they are constantly thinking about their students, reflecting on lessons, worrying about how to make sure students are getting what they need, figuring out how to solve problems, communicating with families, researching topics, bouncing ideas off of colleagues, exploring new ideas for teaching strategies, designing assessments, grading papers, finding materials to support a lesson, reading professional books, and sharing stories about how funny/smart/hard-working their students are.
Teacher Appreciation Week is an opportunity to reflect on and express gratitude for our teachers' tireless dedication, exceptional skill, and unwavering commitment. The Parent Teacher Group, Sunshine Committee, Northwood School Board, and the SAU and building administrative teams will be showing our appreciation for teachers next week to honor the invaluable impact that our teachers have on students. We hope you'll join us in saying thank you!
Thank you, Northwood School teachers, for all that you do and all that you are for kids!
