This Sunday, May 5th, we are having our Service Sunday event. There will be one short worship service at 9:00 am, and then we will either head out into the community to serve or work on projects on sight at the church which will benefit local organizations in our community. We will then have lunch available back at the church starting at 11:00.
In our Gospel reading for this Sunday, Jesus gives us these words, “that you love one another, as I have loved you.” Serving our neighbors in our community is a great way to express and show others the love of Jesus Christ which He Himself as already shown you. My hope is that this Service Sunday and the opportunities to serve those in our community might be something which stirs your heart and your desire to share the love of Christ with someone else, and that as your heart is stirred you are encouraged to participate and sign up or join one of the groups on Sunday morning.
There will be many ways to serve, options at church or in our community, including the following:
Projects Off-site
-Common Threads (at Messiah): This team will sew, fold, cut, iron, tear, and/or mark fabric which is used for donations for those in need.
-Mahoney Park Clean Up: This team will head out and clean up the Mahoney park area and the surrounding trails.
-Havelock Fire Station: Members of this group will show appreciation to our local first responders by taking them gifts and spending time in prayer and fellowship with them.
-Mahoney Manor: This team will be singing for residents, bringing some joy to those living at Mahoney Manor.
-Northeast YMCA: This team will be working on campus clean-up and yardwork projects for the Northeast YMCA.
Projects On-Site
-City Mission Meals to Go: Putting together City Mission Meals, where these packed meals will be distributed around Lincoln by People's City Mission. We will also be packing some goodie bags for our homebound members.
-Community Craft Project: There will be a variety of options available here. Crafts available for all ages and skills, from crocheting to coloring.
Every group will have the opportunity to serve from 10:00-11:00 am (or longer!) depending on the needs and number of volunteers.
Lunch will be available at Faith starting at 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. You can either stay for lunch or get your lunch to go.
