It's November, Theatre Family! Time to Reflect, Recharge, and Renew 🍂
It has been so inspiring to get to enjoy the work of our member theatres. The full experience of being welcomed at the door, greeted by a Saint, a volunteer or member of the theatre and taking my seat whether in a small intimate space of 20 or a room of 1000 always makes my heart full. This past month I got to enjoy Jocey y las Mariachis at Visión Latino Theatre Company, Primary Trust at Goodman Theatre, Chicago Lore(s) at UrbanTheater Company, march the streets with the League team for Arts in the Dark, take a seat at the Black Arts and Cultural Alliance Awards, and the Black Theatre Alliance Awards forum and of course uplift our wonderful theatre community at the League's annual Spotlight Gala.
Theatre is the heartbeat of our cultural landscape. It is a living, breathing art form that unites communities, sparks important conversations, and provides a platform for amplifying voices both locally and globally, an outlet that is needed as we continue to navigate a challenging landscape shaped by changing economic pressures, it is more crucial now more than ever to advocate for the future of live theatre—both in Chicago and across the nation.
We invite you to take time this month to reflect, recharge, and renew. Reflect on the work we've done this year to amplify the voices of theatres large and small, ensuring they have the resources, visibility, and support they need to weather challenges and grow. Recharge at our Community Empowerment Series taking place on November 18 and get inspired by the creative work of your fellow theatre community members - visit Hot Tix, Chicagoplays, or our industry ticket offers page to stay up to date. Renew your League membership for 2025 and expect some new documents/logins/outreach as we renew our systems and processes for the upcoming year.
Here at the League, we are proud to continue our work as advocates for theatre. Please reach out to get involved in this work and continue the conversation. Now is the time to act. Together, we can ensure that the spotlight stay on in theatres across Chicago and the country—and that the magic of live theatre remains a vital part of our cultural fabric for years to come.
