Sermon: The Rev. Trace Browning

Gospel & Sermon begin at 24:40

(We are preparing for Pentecost) We would love to have any and all join us for Pentecost! Join us @11:55ish today (done by 12:30pm).

Day of Pentecost

May 19th at 8 & 10:30am;

it is tradition to wear RED on Pentecost.

Also, as is our tradition, we are seeking readers for the Day of Pentecost reading from Acts.

We are looking for people to read in a foreign language, (you do not need to understand what you are reading).

Please contact marlin if you are interested. I will help you find your reading in the language you desire.

Baptism

Baptism on Pentecost

Pentecost is also a day specifically designated for baptism.

If you or your child is interested in being baptized on Pentecost, please contact Fr. Trace

Acolytes for Pentecost

Any person (child or adult) wanting to serve as an Acolyte on Pentecost please contact Toni Marie or text: 646.761.1942. We would like to have at least: 2 torch bearers, 1 cross, and a person to assist with the incense.

Eucharistic Visitors

If you or someone else from All Saints who is homebound needs a visit with communion, please notify Marlin or Fr. Trace. They will arrange a visit with Toni Marie Sutliff who will manage home visits during the absence of Deacon Anita Miner.

Altar Flowers Change

Thank you to all who have given so generously for Easter Flowers.

Starting in April we will only have fresh flowers on Sundays that someone has donated for them. We will use a nice silk flower arrangement on other Sundays. The cost for the fresh flowers is now $71 a Sunday, and we just can’t afford to pay that every week unless a donation is made.

Please sign-up if you would like to give in Memory of Thanksgiving.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED: To help facilitate this change, we need a volunteer to look at the sign-up each Sunday for the following Sunday, and then call Brown Floral to order an arrangement. Otherwise, we will have silk arrangement to use. Thanks!

New Congregation: to use our building

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Father Iftode, an Orthodox priest in California under the jurisdiction of the Romanian Orthodox Church in America. About 20 Romanian families in Utah have asked their bishop to explore starting a parish in the Salt Lake area. The bishop has assigned Fr. Iftode to come to Salt Lake once a month to offer the Divine Liturgy (communion) and determine if there are enough people here to begin a parish.

They inquired if they might use our sanctuary for worship and the parish hall for coffee time one Saturday a month, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. I have had several conversations with Fr. Iftode, and have met with a Romanian Orthodox laywoman in Salt Lake who is helping to coordinate this. Our sanctuary and parish hall is nearly always available during this time, and I have approved them to use our space. I see this as an additional opportunity for All Saints to show hospitality to another Christian fellowship. They will offer a small donation each month for using our space.

The Romanian Orthodox Church will begin using All Saints on Saturday, 11 May, from 9 am to 1pm.

A regular monthly schedule will be determined soon.

Let me know if you have any questions.

NEW Sale Idea of the Week:

Puzzles, games, and toys. This includes baby rattles, crib mobiles, cars, trucks, stuffed animals, dolls etc. Legos will always be the first thing to sell. Puzzles of all varieties are good. 8 piece wooden ones for the toddler up to 1,000 pieces for people who love the challenge. Games are great sellers, but if they don’t have all their pieces, please put a note in the box. We can either sell with a note saying what is missing or re-package them as parts for someone to buy who has a game at home with missing parts. The rummage sale donation box would be happy to receive them all. Remember the outside toys as well, like a tricycle as the child now uses a two wheeler. A bike would probably be too big for the donation box, but consider making a note to donate it in August.

Delegates and visitors join for ministry, fun, fellowship, worship, and governmental duties in “Joyous in Discipleship”

The theme “Joyous in Discipleship” echoed throughout the two-day Diocesan Convention at St. James’ in Midvale. The business of the church occupied the first day as both resolutions before the body passed unanimously. One resolution offers a small monthly stipend to Deacons of the Diocese in order to qualify the clerics for access to the Church Pension Fund. That fund offers considerable assistance to church employees-both working and retired. The second resolution lowered the percentage of clergy (retired and working) needing to be present to constitute a quorum for convention business and for the election of a bishop.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta, The Rt. Rev. Robert Wright furthered the “Joyous in Discipleship” theme with an inspirational keynote address. That address is found the above webpage. He then held an interactive workshop with convention delegates and visitors. Other workshops also took on aspects of the Joyous in Discipleship theme. Links to those workshops are also in this website (soon).

Coming to our Diocese: May 14th "Philadelphia Eleven" Documentary Tells Story of First Ordained Women

The award-winning documentary “The Philadelphia Eleven,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of women’s ordination in the Episcopal Church, will premiere in cities across the US, including Salt Lake City at Broadway Cinemas, on May 14, 2024. This feature film, which highlights the pioneering women who challenged church norms by becoming priests, forms part of a limited release in several cities. Each screening will be accompanied by discussions with clergy and subject matter experts, enriching the viewing experience and contextualizing the ongoing struggle for gender equality within church leadership.
