Note from the Rector

Dear Friends,

The countdown has begun for the annual Food Truck Festival which will be held a week from tomorrow - Thursday, May 9th (Ascension Day)! A small group of dedicated staff and lay leaders have been working hard to make plans for this year's festival.

Food trucks include: Corazon Mexican, Aww Shucks, Tay Thai, and a hotdog vendor. And for dessert, Heavenly Donuts! Kelly Gould will auction off flower arrangements as a way to raise money for the cause. We will also have face painting for the kids. Ascension is blessed with a number of talented musicians who will provide the tunes for the evening.

The festival serves as a way for Ascension to welcome our neighbors onto our campus as well as raise funds and awareness around our various feeding ministries. The leadership team would love your help on the day of the festival. Please take a minute to look over the various volunteer roles and sign up where you can. In the meantime, please spread the word and invite your friends and neighbors!

In other news, I'm looking forward to continuing our programming for the Great 50 Days of Prayer. On Sunday morning during the Adult Forum (9:30 a.m.), I'll lead a Prayer Writing workshop. The hope is that this workshop will inspire a prayer writing frenzy in the congregation that will lead to our own Ascension prayer book! This idea was inspired by a member of the program leadership team - Ashley Greene.

Also, Amanda Austin and Kath Smelser are working with various families in the congregation to present the 14 Stations of the Resurrection. In a similar fashion to Stations of the Cross, we will walk the steps of the Resurrected Lord. I hope you'll join us Sunday afternoon at 4pm.

I hope to see you soon!

Faithfully,

Jack+

P.S. Don't forget to signup to join a prayer team. If you are on the fence and need more information, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Welcome to Ascension!

On Sunday, we held a New Member Lunch welcoming those members who've officially joined Ascension in the last year. A similar event was also held in August welcoming our new families. The photo collage above includes 21 of the 23 families who've joined Ascension since last May. Click on the image to view the slideshow. If you are interested in joining Ascension, you can let us know by filling out this form. Please be sure to introduce yourself to our newest members if you haven't already.

Welcome to the Household of God!

At the 10:30 service, we welcomed Heidi Ye-Ji Carrie, Collins Elizabeth Dillon, and Ruth Virginia Knowles the household of God through the waters of baptism. Thanks be to God!

Wing Ding

Several members of our men’s group participated in the annual Wing Ding which was sponsored by Leadership Vestavia Hills. Net proceeds benefited the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Leadership Vestavia Hills scholarship fund.

The Rev. Jack Alvey helped support the cause by signing up for the Dunking Booth.

Anglican Prayer Bread Workshop

Amanda Austin and Kath Smelser lead a workshop on Anglican Prayer Beads. After a brief introduction, those gathered made their own sets. Anglican Prayer Beads are like Catholic Rosaries. The workshop was a part of the Great 50 Days of Prayer programming. Next Sunday morning the Rev. Jack Alvey will facilitate a Prayer Writing workshop.
