There's Still Time to
Be a Streetscape Volunteer!
Join the biggest, best community volunteer bash of the year at Streetscape Planting Day on Saturday, June 1. 2024 marks CityScape’s 27th annual Planting Day and we’re celebrating with our “Greenery and Good Vibes” theme. Interested? Click the link below to sign up online and help beautify our new downtown, the gateways, and corridors into the city! Or volunteer with a neighborhood beautification project near you. All volunteers are welcome at the opening Breakfast and CityScape encourages neighborhood groups to use this opportunity to start making plans for citywide beautification efforts!
Streetscape Day projects will include trimming, planting flowers and shrubs in beds, bunkers and pots, removing debris, and mulching planted areas. Lunch will be catered by downtown and area restaurants at Penguin City Brewery. Focus areas include Central Square, West and East Federal Streets, John Young Memorials, South Avenue Bridge Police Memorial, Mahoning Commons, B&O Station, Choffin Hillside, City Hall, Williamson Staircase, Wick Park, Harrison Common, Smoky Hollow, and more.
Anyone interested in volunteering for planting day on June 1st can do so by signing up through the link above. We have exceeded the number of shirts available for this year's event but we'd still love for you to join us!
“We’re getting tremendous community response to our request for volunteers, but really need ‘all hands on deck’ because there’s plenty of planting to do,” said Executive Director Sharon Letson. “Streetscape 2024 “Greenery and Good Vibes” is the perfect way for community members to come downtown and reconnect with all that’s going on. We’re excited to help green up our downtown, gateways, and neighborhoods, and welcome everyone back downtown for the summer!”

Here's Looking at You Spring!
It’s 70 degrees…it’s 30 degrees…it’s 70…it’s 30…it’s spring in Ohio! You just never know with Ohio weather, so we take each day as it comes. One thing for certain, warmer weather and increased daylight means it is planting time. Time to make sure that your soil is ready: pull weeds and add amendments such as compost, sand, or more soil to fill beds and pots. Now is also the time to add fertilizer. Make sure to mix all your amendments into the soil well – at least 6-12 inches. Your newly fortified soil needs to settle, so let it sit for a bit.

Doors Galore
The weather is heating up and so are renovations at CityScape’s new greenhouse facility, CityScape at Briel’s, at 23-29 S. Belle Vista Avenue. Drive by and you’ll see that we’ve installed new garage doors on our front to improve access, ensure we’re water-tight, and boost useable space.

Litter League is a statewide summer program designed to motivate community members to strike out neighborhood litter, and help residents get involved, compete for their team, win prizes, and clean up our city.

It’s our mantra. It’s our makeup. It’s our rally cry. It’s our voice. It speaks to our first steps at standing tall and shouting out that WE are who and what makes up the Downtown of The City of Youngstown. We Are: Still Here. We Are: Still In Youngstown, with our arms open wide, hoping to see everyone support each other and reach the other side of the chaos of what’s happening in our community.
You Ready? Then, let’s go. Join in, with We Are: A Generation, to get engaged in the work to restore our city.
