NOVEMBER 2022
Greetings!

I hope you are looking forward to the upcoming holiday season, which is fast approaching.

As the calendar year closes, we kindly ask for your charitable support of LFA. We rely on gifts from alumni and parents to meet the needs of our students and faculty. Thank you in advance for your philanthropy.

Wishing you all the best as 2022 draws to a close. Please reach out if I can be of assistance to you here at LFA. We'd love to see you on campus if your travels bring you to the Chicago area.

Three Veteran Faculty Installed in Endowed Chairs
On November 4, Lake Forest Academy honored three of its veteran faculty members and bestowed on them the title of endowed chair holder. The ceremony took place in Reid Hall at the annual Celebration of Philanthropy and Service event.

History & Social Sciences teacher Chris Dozois ’84, P'17, '21 was named the inaugural Dr. John & Mrs. Loring Strudwick Endowed Chair; Science faculty Dr. Kerry Cedergren P'13, '17, '24 was appointed the Harold H. Corbin, Jr. Endowed Chair; and Science faculty Mathias Kerr was honored as the Edmund J. Rendtorff Endowed Chair in Science.

The trio were recognized by Dean of Faculty Tom Johnson for their outstanding commitment to students and distinction in their academic fields. Endowed chair funds at LFA support a faculty member’s compensation and provide discretionary money for travel and other experiences.

The evening event was also an opportunity to thank the Academy's many donors and volunteers, including Inspire & Invest donors, Health Center donors, Cornerstone Society members (those who support the Academy with gifts of $1,000 and above), Richards & Tremain Society members (those who include LFA in their estate plans), as well as volunteers, such as our Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) representatives.

Congratulations to our endowed chairs, and thank you to everyone!

Start Today – Impact the Student Experience
Gifts to the Academy Fund impact students in many ways, including supporting student activities and organizations, ensuring these experiences are enriching and that all students have the opportunity to participate.

Impact of Academy Fund Donors
Last spring, LFA Science Olympiad earned a first-place finish at three events in the state competition. The Academy Fund supported the group’s operations, which included preparing to compete in events from creating gravity vehicles and detector building, to forensics and cell biology.
College Care Packs Sent to Alumni in Class of 2022

College Dinner Series
Our college dinner series continued throughout October and November with gatherings at Drake, Northwestern, and universities in the Washington, D.C. area.

These get-togethers are a great chance for LFA to stay connected to our college (and grad school!) Caxys, to hear about their college experience, and to share news from campus today, all while enjoying a meal together. Watch your email and the LFA website for upcoming dinner locations and dates. Have You Claimed Your Funds from the Caxy Legacy Challenge?
The Caxy Legacy Challenge, fueled by Sheri Kersch Schultz '72 (Ferry Hall alumna and 2022 Woman of Distinction honoree) and David Gupta '81 (LFA alumnus, Trustee-elect, and 2021 LFA Hall of Famer), provides immediate challenge funds to individuals who create a new bequest commitment or who verify an existing bequest through documentation. Challenge dollars are directed toward a current endowment fund of the donor's choosing. Eligible estate gift commitments of $50,000 or more unlock 10% of the gift's face value from the challenge pool, up to a maximum of $10,000.

Estate gifts strengthen the LFA endowment, providing stability for the school's future. Endowment funds provide essential resources for student financial aid, faculty professional development and other designated purposes. Click the link to learn more about the Caxy Legacy Challenge or visit LFA's gift planning webpage at lfa.givingplan.net.
Were You a Scholarship Student at LFA?
Did you receive a scholarship/financial aid to attend LFA? Would you be willing to share your story?

During the Inspire & Invest Initiative, several alumni shared their experiences with the Academy, particularly how financial aid at LFA changed their life trajectory. As a result, dozens of alumni and parent donors have stepped forward to support scholarships, inspired by these remarkable stories.

If you would be willing to be interviewed about your LFA journey and the impact that a scholarship had on your life, please email Ruth Keyso (rkeyso@lfanet.org)
