Sixth Edition
CELEBRATING OUR RICH LOCAL DIVERSITY
INAUGURAL MULTICULTURAL FIESTA
GCMAGIC recently held the inaugural Multicultural Fiesta Project on the Gold Coast. The project involved two innovative and spectacular activities.
The Multicultural Fiesta Visual Presentation held in July was a showcase of traditional attire or clothing of ethnic communities from different parts of the world. The showcase was done through photography and videography of 39 cultural groups. This activity was funded by the Multicultural Affairs Queensland (MAQ).
The Multicultural Fiesta Event on 27 August at Hellenic Function Centre presented the local cultural diversity from a new perspective. Presented in partnership with Sarah Ingram - Arts & Cultural Event Producer of Pacific Arts & Cultural Heritage Inc., the program highlighted community connections and group activities, with guests wearing vibrant traditional clothing. The event is supported by the City of Gold Coast and MAQ.
Mr John Paul Langbroek, MP of Surfers Paradise and Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, attended the event to support community cultural groups and delivered an inspiring speech.
Although Hon. Leanne Linard, Minister for Multicultural Affairs was unable to attend the event, she sent a message of support and encouragement.
The photos and videos were published in various social media and attracted over 5,000 viewers. The project received a great number of media coverage including press release sent to Gold Coast and Brisbane media outlets. We were interviewed by 4EB Radio Focus & Women's Profile programs with Irene Tavutavu, and by National ABC. Nasrin Vaziri was interviewed on Media Queen TV, live streamed to Facebook, LinkedIn & YouTube. Thanks to Aldwyn Altuney
director/photojournalist of AA Xposé Media.
