From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi
Thank you to all of our families, near and far, who have been participating in the Apex Fun Run Fundraiser. Over the past week we have had the pleasure of working with two energetic, positive and affirming young people, Jump and C-Dub, the ambassadors for the Apex Leadership program. Each day they have been working with your child on the X-Factor Leadership characteristics of being fearless, adapting to change, caring for others, positive talk, being original and realizing your goals. Short daily lessons support the development of good leadership and citizenship skills that are so needed in our world today. Today and tomorrow, all our students will be participating in the culminating activity: the fun run! Thank you for all your support, and if you have not yet contributed and would like to do so, please scan the QR code on your child's Apex lanyard.
The Christmas season is upon us, a time for sharing and giving of gifts. The SRS community has been so very generous this year supporting our service projects and fundraisers. Given the times we are in and the increasing costs to operate a household, your own family needs at Christmas time and the challenging economic climate we are currently facing, this year we will not be undertaking the Christmas collection for teachers and staff. Please consider all your contributions thus far as a beautiful Christmas gift to our teachers and staff. If you are so inclined, please take the time to write a special thank you message to your child’s teacher and let them know you are appreciative of all that they are doing for your son/daughter.
This year our SRS Family Christmas tree is back and I would like to encourage each family to send in an ornament to help decorate it. These ornaments, either store bought or handmade, will help decorate our tree. After Christmas they will be returned to you.
Yesterday, your child’s report card (Grades K-8 only) for the first trimester was sent home. Please be sure to sign the envelope and return only the envelope to your child’s teacher this week.
Please keep our second grade students in your prayers this week. This Friday, many of the students will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Thank you to Mrs. Gertz, Mrs. Bonini, Mrs. Landino, and Mrs. Halloran for preparing our students for this very important step in their faith journey.
This coming Tuesday, December 13, we will be hosting our annual Christmas Concert and Nativity Pageant. The Nativity Pageant is for grades K-3 and will take place at 1:15 and the concert for grades 4 &5, Band and Chorus will take place at 6:00. Both programs will be held at the church. Children who are participating in the concert or pageant may dress in their holiday best. Grade 3 students will follow their teacher’s direction for appropriate dress for their respective costumes.
With the winter season quickly approaching, our thoughts turn to snow days. We have 5 inclement weather days (June 14-20) built into our school calendar so we will be taking snow days this winter. Snow days are a childhood tradition and are meant to be a day children can sleep in and then go outside to play in the snow. Should we have a more severe winter and exceed our 5 snow days, we will consult with our central office and make a decision regarding next steps.
Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. May this season of Advent remind you of the Hope, Joy, Love and Peace found in Christ. Be well and stay safe.
God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
