Forbes Ranks Jax State Among Nation's Best Online Emergency Management Programs

Forbes recently named Jax State among the 10 Best Online Emergency Management Degrees in the country, recognizing the university for preparing students for emergency management careers in all levels of government, as well as the private sector.

Partnership with FEMA's Center for Domestic Preparedness

The Department of Emergency Management and Public Administration at Jax State has renewed its partnership with the FEMA Center for Domestic Preparedness, signing an agreement to collaborate on research, internships and academic credits through 2032.   Read more about the partnership from HERE.

EM Doctoral Student Honored by IAEM-USA

Antoine B. Richards, Jax State Emergency Management doctoral student, has been recognized as one of the honorees of the 2024 40 Under 40 Award by the U.S. Council of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM-USA). The announcement was made during the IAEM Plugged In Virtual Conference on April 18, 2024.


The IAEM-USA 40 Under 40 Award is a prestigious recognition bestowed upon individuals under 40 who have demonstrated exceptional talent, leadership, and achievements in emergency management.

Research Grant for Summer Field School in Louisiana!

Dr. Laura Olson received a $35,000 grant from LiSC to create a qualitative research field school this summer, and to take the doctoral students to Louisiana to do research in an African American community that was hit by Hurricane Ida. Congratulations, Dr. Olson!

MPA Student Applied for More than $1.3M Grants for City of Jacksonville


Patricia Daigle while doing her internship for the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program in Spring 2024, applied for more than $1.3 million in grants and appropriation funds for the city of Jacksonville as part of her internship with the city.

Doctoral Graduate in Spring 2024

Congratulations to Dr. Josh Simmons (cohort 2017, pictured with Dr. Huang) for successfully defending his dissertation and graduating in Spring 2024.


Dr. Simmons's dissertation title is "The Impact of Household Preparedness and Work-Family Conflict on Medic-Firefighter Ability and Willingness to Respond for Duty in a Disaster".

JSU offers a 20% tuition scholarship for first responders employed full-time by a law enforcement agency, fire department or emergency service agency. The scholarship is applicable to our Bachelor of Science (BSEM) and Master of Science in Emergency Management (MSEM) programs.
