Senior Planet aims to assist seniors in enhancing their quality of life by acquiring new skills and provides complimentary access to computer equipment, Wi-Fi, and technology classes. Located in Wynwood, it stands as Miami-Dade County's pioneering technology-themed community center for adults aged 50 and above. Its grand opening took place on December 4, 2023.

| Trailblazers inducted into the Miami-Dade County Women's Hall of Fame | On April 2, the Board of County Commissioners inducted three trailblazers to the Miami-Dade County Women's Hall of Fame: Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. The lively and inspiring induction ceremony was held in the County Commission chambers. The first nine women inducted into the hall of fame in 2022 included luminaries such as Julia Tuttle, Mary Brickell, Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, Athalie Range, and Congresswoman Carrie Meek. | |
Miami Beach Pride Parade 2024 | |
The 2024 Miami Beach Pride Parade took place on April 14 with representation from the Miami-Dade County LGBTQIA+ Advisory Board supporting its commitment to inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and various County department personnel also participated. | |
Domestic Violence Oversight Board elects new officers | |
The Miami-Dade County Domestic Violence Oversight Board (DVOB) held elections for officers who will serve in their leadership roles until November 2024.
Dr. Cecile Houry was elected Chair. Dr. Houry is the Grants Manager for the City of Miami Beach Police Department and previously supervised the department’s Victim Services Unit. Her experience includes working at Florida International University as director of student programs for the Honors College. Born and raised in France, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Orleans. In 2011 she graduated from the University of Miami with a doctorate in history and then earned a master’s degree in public safety from the University of Virginia in 2022. She is actively involved in the department’s LGBTQIA+ initiatives.
Isabela Corzo was elected Vice Chair. Corzo is a highly accomplished policy and administration professional with a rich background in both the private and public sectors, having worked in Washington, DC, Miami, and South Korea. As the Director of Public Policy at the United Way, Miami, she champions the cause of underserved communities, focusing on financial stability, education, and health. Corzo volunteers her expertise with various South Florida organizations, particularly those focused on addressing food insecurity and homelessness.

Interfaith Advisory Board holds monthly meeting | |
On April 11, the Miami-Dade County Interfaith Advisory Board held its monthly meeting. The main topic of discussion was the ever growing nature of antisemitism. The board voted to launch an antisemitism messaging campaign to bring additional awareness to this critical issue. The board hopes to send messages of peace and unity through social media, podcasts, print, and public service announcements.

Free mobile veterinary clinic provides care for our pets | |
The Wellness on Wheels (WOW) free mobile veterinary clinic serves the needs of at-risk pets and pet owners in underserved communities throughout Miami-Dade County and is fully equipped to provide routine medical care to owned cats and dogs. Services include physical exams, wellness vaccines, deworming, and flea prevention. The WOW clinic will also refer clients to low or no-cost options for spay/neuter surgeries not offered at the clinic. Pets will be served on a first-come, first-served basis, appointments are not accepted. The WOW clinic will be rotating throughout various locations in the county and is stationed, through May 29, at the South Dade Government Center, 10710 SW 211 Street in Cutler Bay. Hours are Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. | |
