Weekly service is a ten-week commitment over a semester and works with your schedule!
For students who are interested in weekly voluntary service:
- Registration opens on Tuesday, January 25th at 5:00 pm
- Registration closes on Monday, January 31st at 11:00 pm
Weekly service is a great way to get involved, meet new people and make a difference! Students tell us it is often the highlight of their week! Weekly service is a ten-week commitment over the semester. Explore a variety of available opportunities HERE. Engage in a wide range of activities serving children, youth, senior citizens, people experiencing homelessness, refugees, people with disabilities, and more.

Mondays:

Are you looking for a high-impact exciting summer internship? Apply for CSSA's Advocacy, Solidarity, and Social Change Summer Internship Program!
The Advocacy, Solidarity, and Social Change Internships enable qualified students to explore what it means to engage in advocacy at non-profit organizations through advocacy, solidarity and social change. This 10-week immersive experience will connect hands-on experience with an exploration of the root causes of the social issues the organizations confront. Students will prepare a project for the organization that promotes social change.
Internship Dates: May 31-August 5, 2022
Compensation: $3,500 stipend, plus additional $500 for completion of the research project.
Deadline for Applicants: Sunday, January 30, 2022

Chris Suriano from JVC Northwest will be hosting a session on how to discern a year of service on Wednesday Feb 2nd from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the Campus Ministry Conference Room. Join Chris and Campus Ministry as we talk about vocations! Additionally Chris and JVC Northwest will be attending John Carroll’s Winter Career Exploration Fair on Thursday Feb 3rd if you can not attend the session but want to learn more!

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about sharing the Catholic faith and has experience teaching junior high age students. The position requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in theology or education. All teachers at St. Dominic School are required to complete Virtus training and be background checked.

"Gather" Film Screening Event
Explore the issue of indigenous food sovereignty

John Carroll University will host a free screening of “Gather,” a new, feature-length film on the Indigenous food sovereignty movement
on

“Gather,” outlines the revitalization and re-creation of Indigenous food systems in North America. “Gather” takes viewers to tribal communities where members are actively working Native food sovereignty issues.
Following the film there will be a panel presentation and discussion with:

Paisley Sierra, a Lakota tribe member and a student at the University of Minnesota, whose concern for environmental justice grew out of her Oglala Lakota culture's view of the Earth as family and her knowledge of social issues in today's world. One event that helped clarify those views was an Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in November 2019.

Katie Chustak, Director of Food Sovereignty at Red Cloud School on the Pine Ridge Reservation, whose work is directly connected with restoring the indigenous crops and methods of cultivation passed down by the tribe.

Sr. Priscilla Solomon, CSJ. Sr. Priscilla Solomon, CSJ, is an Ojibway woman and a Sister of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie. She is the coordinator of the Faith and Justice ministry in her congregation and was among the delegation that went to Rome to give support as the Synod of Bishops for the Amazon heard pleas to defend the rights of the region's indigenous people and of the land they hold sacred.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

Assist low-income residents with Tax Return Preparation
|
The Center for Service and Social Action and the Boler College of Business are recruiting students to participate in the federal Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which helps low to moderate-income individuals and families prepare their income tax returns without professional fees.
Service-learning courses are being offered for 0 and 1 credit options this Spring 2022 through the Department of Accountancy.

- Make a difference during this pandemic!

There is a mandatory virtual training, Saturday, January 22 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, and students in the course typically are required to assist with two tax preparation Saturdays in the spring. The tax preparation will be conducted in person and virtually with the assistance of Cuyahoga EITC Coalition.
Students of all majors are welcome to register!
No pre-requisites or exams

Become an Early Literacy Tutor!

Carroll Reads is a federally-funded tutoring program aimed at helping children in elementary grades develop reading skills. If you are looking for a paid federal work-study position, this is a great opportunity to work with children in the community. Tutors are paid $11.00 per hour for tutoring twice/week, approximately 5 hours per week.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting one-on-one tutoring sessions with students using educator-provided materials.
- Building rapport and cultivating enthusiasm with the children.
- Assisting children in developing their reading and writing skills to reach grade-level expectations.
- Weekly documenting and reviewing student data with the Carroll Reads Site Coordinators to gauge the effectiveness of interventions.
- Regularly checking in with Carroll Reads Coordinators and Student Liaisons for continued training and assistance in tutoring.
- Committing to tutoring two days per week, for ten weeks, over the course of the semester.
