Adopt A Pet from the Lassen County Animal Shelter – Aspen
Summer time is right around the corner and Aspen is an active girl ready to join you on all your planned adventures! Day at the lake? Aspen will be there. Hiking trip planned? Aspen says ‘yes, please’!
This sweet, petite lady arrived at the Lassen County Animal Shelter as a stray. Her history is unknown to staff, however she’s proven to be incredibly outgoing, athletic, and always ready to make new doggy friends. Aspen has energy galore, so potential adopters should be very ready to help Aspen exhaust that energy through appropriate outlets.
| |
|
When she’s been able to get her zoomies out, Aspen settles and gives her handler her attention. She has tons of potential and will make a wonderful companion.
Aspen is estimated to be about 5 months old, UTD on vaccinations, and recently spayed. If interested in meeting Aspen, or other adoptable animals at the shelter, please call staff at 530.257.9200. As always, if there are other dogs already in the potential new home, please bring them along for a meet and greet to ensure all dogs get along.
Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.
Current shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 530.257.9200.

Grizzly Claybreakers Hosting Annual ‘Claws vs. Paws’ Fundraiser May 11th
The Lassen Grizzly Claybreakers will be hosting their annual ‘Claws vs Paws’ fundraiser May 11th, at the Sierra Sportsman Club and Junior Division Gun Range located on Rice Canyon Road.
The fun event is a trap shooting competition between teams from local and state law enforcement agencies, area groups and other gun clubs.
The entrance fee is $200 for a team of 5 or $40 for individual shooters. Lunch is included.
According to organizer Jenny Robinson, the fundraiser helps pay competition fees for the Claybreakers when they compete at the State Finals in Livermore and the National Finals in Las Vegas.
| |
|
Lunch is available, there will be an ‘opportunity drawing’ and prizes won by competitors.
If time permits, the Claybreakers will hold an Annie Oakley shoot with a $5 entrance fee and the winner gets 1/2 the pot.
Only 75 shooters can participate and there are just a few spots left if your team wants to be part of the fun.
“We are still looking for teams, there are limited number of spots,” explains Robinson. “We are still looking for sponsors to advertise their business on the lanes, sponsor teams, etc.”

What They Think Up North
April 29, 1882
The Susanville Advocate has an article on Hammond & Wilson’s stage line, headed ‘An outrage on the people.’ In which it complains of unfair treatment and extortionate charges.
It says in closing:
“They complain that the line does not pay; and why doesn’t it pay? Because a person will not send by express over this line if it can possibly be avoided, on account of the exorbitant rates, while if they were lower their business would increase tenfold.”
“If Wells, Fargo & Co. would establish an office here the rates would be no more from San Francisco to Susanville than from San Francisco to Reno. It is a very impudent concern. They even refused to carry the Reno Gazette to subscribers along the line, who pay annually the sum of twelve dollars for the delivery of all mail matter, and all because this paper spoke of the entrance to their hall, which is used for public gatherings, as being inadequate for exit in case of fire.”
“They have sub-contracted to carry the mails between this place and Oroville, and it is presumable that they will increase the fare on both routes. In all probability they will refuse to carry the Advocate through the mails on account of our denouncing their express line as a ‘bulldozing’ concern.”
