Do You Know ALICE? Maybe you know an Alice…but the new acronym is gaining traction in Georgia data analytics.

ALICE stands for Asset LimitedIncome ConstrainedEmployed, and represents the growing number of working families who struggle to afford the basics of housing, childcare, food, transportation, healthcare, and technology.

ALICE could be your relative, friend, co-worker, or neighbor. ALICE may also be a teacher, health care provider, retail clerk, sanitation worker, and other members of our essential workforce. These working families are in parts of every community nationwide.

ALICE households include:

  • All races, ages, ethnicities, and abilities, though disproportionately in households of color.
  • Family members who need care and assistance, which makes it harder for caregivers to find adequate work.
  • Workers are living paycheck to paycheck and are forced to make impossible choices such as pay the rent or buy food, receive medical care or pay for childcare, pay utility bills or put gas in the car.

United Way of Central Georgia will use ALICE measures to highlight challenges ALICE households face to inspire action and generate innovative solutions that promote economic and social mobility. These programs and practices improve access to affordable housing, high-quality childcare, education, healthy food, transportation, healthcare, workforce training, and more. United for ALICE will turn data into action by bringing financial stability to ALICE families in Central Georgia.

Board members please mark your calendars for Thursday, May 2nd – the Community Foundation is hosting a Non-Profit Summit and Brittney Burnett, United Way President, will be presenting on this important topic at 4:30 pm at the Kroc Center, Augusta, GA.

Brittney Burnett, United Way President, will host a virtual meeting using Teams in June time and date TBD.

Calling all wonderfully devoted members of WIP!!

We are off to a grand start for the 2024-2025year with a strong and dedicated Board of Directors.  Many thanks to each of them for serving Women in Philanthropy this way!

However, like any successful organization, it is never too soon to look to the future to assure continued success. Are you interested in serving on the Board of Directors? The Nominating Committee will not go into full gear until during the Fall, but we are already researching possibilities. The positions that we may need to consider for the 2025-26 Board are: Governance Chair, Special Events Chair, Secretary, Chair-Elect, and several At-Large spots. Descriptions of the committees are posted on our website at WIPCSRA.org. If you have any questions about the process or the positions, please do not hesitate to contact me or any other member of the Board.

Many thanks for your support of and participation in WIP!

Jackie Cohen (2024-2025 Nominating Chair)
