Quiet rooms are also still available! You can reserve a room from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday or from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Fridays.

TIPS FOR THE SUMMER


School might be over, but if your job search isn't in the same boat, don't worry! Here are some tips and tricks to guide you through the summer months:


  • Take a breath: You've all worked hard this year; make sure to take some time to get some rest now that summer is here! Burnout is a very real issue, so take a moment to cool off before continuing your job search.
  • Talk to a Career Coach: Our Career Coaches will still be available to talk with you about career ideas, helped you with your LinkedIn account, and more! Email our office to get in contact with a coach.
  • Update Your Resume: Don't let your resume get rusty; make sure you keep it up to date through the summer. Make sure to add any news experiences you have coming up in the next few months, as well as make sure everything is structured properly and looks professional.
  • Network: Keep reaching out to alumni - many of them are more than willing to connect and help out! Sites such as Friarlink and LinkedIn will help you get in touch with them.

MICROSOFT OFFICE CERTIFICATIONS BEGINNING IN MAY


This summer, we will be offering certification courses in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.


  • Microsoft Excel: Take both core and expert level courses in Excel this summer! Being Excel-certified is a huge boost when looking for employment, so be sure to get your certification now!
  • Microsoft Word: Along with becoming certified in Microsoft Word, this course will also help students develop their resumes and write cover letters.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint: This course will develop students' proficiencies in PowerPoint, as well as their ability to speak publicly and present on any topic.
  • Microsoft Outlook: This Microsoft Outlook workshop will train students on how to use Outlook to manage their emails, to-do lists, contact lists, and calendars. The focus will be on improving productivity and organization via Outlook’s features.


Anyone who receives a certification in every course will also receive the coveted Microsoft Office Specialist - Associate Certification. For more info on registration, schedules, and more, click below!

TRY AN ONLINE RESOURCE


As always, online resources are available for students to use in order to make sure they are putting their best foot forward when applying for jobs. Here is a brief rundown of what each site does:


  • What Can I Do with This Major? This site provides information and career advice for a variety of majors. While it is easy to feel as though certain majors can only fit in with certain jobs, this site proves that there are more opportunities than you may expect.
  • CliftonStrengths: Find out what your top five strengths are, and waht that means. This knowledge can help you figure out how you can use your strengths in classes, projects and future careers.
  • Focus2: Focus2 guides you through a reliable, intuitive career and education decision making model to help them choose a career path. Its in-depth approach can help you make the best decisions.
  • Vmock: Concerned about your resume? Vmock is the site to visit! You can use Vmock to go over your resume and make sure that you're presenting yourself in the best, most professional way possible.

SUMMER JOB OPPORTUNITIES AT PROVIDENCE COLLEGE


Office Assistant: Physical Plant | 5/20 - 8/30

An employment opportunity for students, temporary office assistant for the Physical Plant office, is now open. Duties may include filing, data entry, answering phones, processing work orders, basic bookkeeping, and department invoicing accounts payable and receivable.

Lifeguard | 5/20 - 8/30

Another on-campus job opportunity for students is a lifeguard position at the Providence College pool. In this position, students would Ensure the safety of patrons at the Taylor Natatorium, clean and inspect pool area daily, and assist with the chemical monitoring and treatment of the pool.


Like the position at the physical plant, the estimated start date for this position is May 20th, and the estimated end date is August 30th. Click here for more information.

JOB OPPORTUNITY AT EASTERN RI CONSERVATION DISTRICT


Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District is looking for a full-time entry-level Environmental Field Technician and Outreach Coordinator with a passion to assist people in planning for best conservation management of their land. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in a range of communications and public relations techniques. This is a grant-funded one-year position with potential for future grant funding.


Actual work schedule may be negotiable, with 40 hours of work/week; daytime hours required, along with some weekend availability. Regular work times & hours will be determined at start of employment. Mileage will be compensated at federal rates for field work.
