WesternU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) and COMP-Northwest feature prominently in the U.S. News and World Report’s list of 2023 Best Medical Schools in producing primary care physicians who are addressing critical health care needs nationwide.

Within the Best Medical Schools list, WesternU COMP and COMP-Northwest ranked third nationwide in “Medical Schools with the most Graduates Practicing Primary Care.” This ranking is based on the percentage of each school’s 2013-15 medical and osteopathic graduates practicing direct patient care in primary care fields.

COMP news

COMP student Armand Yazdani (pictured, left) and COMP Department of Translational Research faculty Drs. Devendra Agrawal and Vikrant Rai published "Rotator Cuff Health, Pathology, and Repair in the Perspective of

Hyperlipidemia" in the Journal of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. Yazdani said seeing his name written at the top of this work, in a scientific journal, gave him an incredible feeling of fulfillment and achievement.

"The learning experience, from start to finish, was an enjoyable introduction into the world of translational research. Through this review, I learned how to comb scientific literature and bring the voice of over 100 articles into a succinct delivery," he said. "Through the help of my mentors in this project, I have learned more effective ways to communicate scientific results, how to work as a team in a scientific setting under my PI, and how to better communicate goals and projects with my colleagues. I am extremely encouraged and grateful for those around me and I am excited to become an active participant in the growing world of research."
