Hi, I’m Mathias. I was one of June's first saves of 2024; talk about starting with a bang. Though some may say I look grumpy, I humbly consider myself quite debonaire and am not grumpy at all!
I don’t really know how I came to be living on the streets, but somehow, I did. The vet says I was living there a long time because I was underweight and matted, all my teeth were broken, and I’m FeLV and FIV positive. I’m told those are viruses I likely got from fighting with other cats. I really tried to be nice to other cats, but I got picked on. The streets are a hard place to live, especially as a distinguished, senior gentleman. Oh yeah, the vet also said I had fleas. I really hate those things!
Anyways, one day some kind people started feeding me, which was great cause it wasn’t easy to catch my own food with broken teeth. These kind people wanted to get me help, and that’s how I ended up at June’s with my Furever Foster parents. June’s helped me get rid of those dang fleas and start to feel better. Then supporters, like you, raised money so I could get a dental. I lost quite a few teeth, but now I can eat, and it doesn’t hurt. I even gained three pounds!
I have to say, I don’t miss street cat life at all. I love my full belly, drooling on my foster parents when they pet me (it just feels so good), and mouse toys that are so much easier to catch than the real thing. I live a great life now, and it wouldn't have happened without you. I am so thankful you love senior cats. You saved my life!
I have one more obstacle I need to overcome, and I could use some help from you. Remember those viruses I mentioned earlier? Well, they gave me irritable bowel syndrome or IBS. I won't go into the crappy (pun intended) details, but I need to be on medication and a prescription diet for the rest of my life. My needs are expensive at almost $200 per month.
