The northbound MacArthur Boulevard off-ramp was closed a week ago to allow contractors to reconstruct the off-ramp to accommodate freeway improvements. 

The existing off-ramp was removed, grading was done, and new concrete pavement was placed at the end of the ramp. Contractors are expected to continue placing asphalt along the remaining length of the ramp to the mainline and restriping before the off-ramp reopens to motorist by 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21.

Once the off-ramp reopens, it will be temporarily restriped to include one left-turn and one right-turn lane at the MacArthur intersection, and the single lane off-ramp for eastbound MacArthur will be permanently eliminated.

This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

To complete construction on a drainage system that is being constructed underneath the southbound SR-55 MacArthur Boulevard off-ramp, crews are planning to shift traffic onto a temporary off-ramp that runs along the outside shoulder of the freeway. Additional information will be provided in future communications.

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
