I Sing a Song of the Saints of God!

I sing a song of the saints of God,

Patient and brave and true,

Who toiled and fought and lived and died

For the Lord they loved and knew.

And one was a doctor, and one was a queen,

And one was a shepherdess on the green;

They were all of them saints of God, and I mean,

God helping, to be one too.

They loved their Lord so dear, so dear,

And His love made them strong;

And they followed the right for Jesus' sake

The whole of their good lives long.

And one was a soldier, and one was a priest,

And one was slain by a fierce wild beast;

And there's not any reason, no, not the least,

Why I shouldn't be one too.

They lived not only in ages past,

There are hundreds of thousands still.

The world is bright with the joyous saints

Who love to do Jesus' will.

You can meet them in school, or in lanes, or at sea,

In church, or in trains, or in shops, or at tea;

For the saints of God are just folk like me,

And I mean to be one too.

This weekend marks one of the principal feast days in the Church. All Saints Day is meant to give God solemn thanks for the lives and death of the saints, including those who are both famous and obscure. As such, on All Saints Day, we remember the ‘patient and brave and true’ saints of ancient times as well as ‘the bright, joyous saints’ who are alive today.

I wish you a blessed All Saints Day and hope you, like the classic hymn states, ‘mean to be one too!’

                                                                                 --George

     P.S. Don’t forget Daylight Saving Time! We ‘fall back’ an hour this Sunday morning, so check those clocks!

Thanksgiving Dinner Donations Appeal 2022

As Thanksgiving approaches, many of us are mindful of our good fortune and consider ways to help others. Once again, St. Peter’s Church is assisting families and individuals in Waltham who could use some extra support. Unfortunately, food insecurity is rising and the continued increase in both the cost and the demand for food means that many, including children, are hungry.

We would like your help. In partnership with WATCH (Waltham Alliance for Teaching, Community Organizing, and Housing), we will donate $75 Hannaford Supermarket gift cards to deserving Waltham families so that they can plan and enjoy their holiday meals.

Please join the St. Peter’s Thanksgiving drive and help spread joy! We encourage you to consider donating the equivalent of two or more “$75 Thanksgiving Dinner” gift cards, but welcome donations of any amount.

1 Dinner $75, 2 dinners $150, 3 Dinners $225, 4 Dinners $300, 5 dinners $375, etc.

Thanksgiving Dinner Donation is easy with several payment options:

1) Through St. Peter’s online payment platform, Realm: https://onrealm.org/StPetersEpiscop42312/-/give/now

NOTE: Please be sure to select “Thanksgiving Dinners” under the Fund column (second prompt after the amount)

2) By texting “StPetersWeston” to 73256 to get a link to the Realm site, as above.

3) By check made out to St. Peter’s with “Thanksgiving Dinner” written in the memo line, and mailing the check to: St. Peter’s Church, 320 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA 02493

This year’s deadline for Thanksgiving Dinner donation submissions is Friday, November 11th. All gifts towards Thanksgiving Dinners are tax deductible and will be included in St Peter’s Parishioner’s year-end reporting.

To help as many families as possible, please share this appeal letter (see printable attachment) with your friends and neighbors. In the past, some families have even distributed the “neighbor appeal” in their neighbors’ mailboxes to involve their children and to teach them about the spirit of giving. Emailing or texting the letter to friends and family works too!

Questions? Contact Anne Ruggles (asruggles@gmail.com).

Thank you for your consideration and wishing you and your family, a safe, healthy, and happy Thanksgiving season.

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES

Afghan Ministry Update

Thank you for the donations of curtains, fabric, housewares and clothing we’ve received over the last week. I should have taken a picture but we had 12 large bags of fabric and a few bolts, that the Mom’s helped themselves to on Tuesday at our weekly get together. Beduna is a young woman (27 according to her husband, she does not know her age) from a remote and rural area of Afghanistan. She was sold by her father at a young age to an older man who in turn sold her to her current husband. Thankfully he is a very sweet, gentle man who loves Beduna and his children very much. They have three children with a fourth on the way. Neither speak english and Beduna is illiterate in her native Pashto language. She would like to contribute to the family income the only way she knows, through her sewing. Habibullah is a man who was a tailor before joining the Afghan Army. He was shot in the leg and standing for long periods of time is difficult for him. He has a factory job that pays a little more than minimum wage. He has four boys and one on the way (they’re hoping for a girl). He is also hoping to supplement his income by making and selling pillows and will do custom orders. We hope eventually as his english improves he can establish a tailoring business here. We will be bringing their pillows to church on Sunday to sell at the breakfast between services. We hope you might take a fancy to their handiwork and buy some pillows. Or if you’d like to support their efforts but don’t need a pillow, you could purchase one that would in turn be donated to local women shelters and the Fresh Start Furniture Bank in Hudson which provides free furnishings for those in need. Also on our current Afghan family wish list: slow cooker, electric skillets, vacuums, rugs, curtain rods (35”), doormats for wet shoes, suitcases, laundry detergent (expensive and very heavy to carry home from stores) and we could always use gift certificates to Savers, Joanne Fabrics, Target and Walmart.

Thank you,

Karen & Hansi

Home Communion and Prayer

church set up.jpg

Though many of St. Peter's parishioners have returned to worshiping and receiving Holy Communion in person inside our church building, we know it is not yet safe for all of us to do so. We will continue to live-stream our services so that we may include as many as possible in our offerings of praise and thanksgiving to God.

If it is not yet safe for you to worship with us in person, and you would like to receive Holy Communion and/or a share a time of prayer at your home, please contact the Parish Office.

If you would like to schedule a time during the week for private prayer in the church, please contact the church office.

St. Peter's is committed to continuing to make our worship space safe and welcoming to all. We hope to have you back with us in person as soon as doing so is the right choice for you.
