Climate Action Plan Update

At last night’s October 9th meeting, the City Council approved the Climate Action Plan Update. Originally adopted in 2017, the plan is an important roadmap to guide the City in implementing programs and policies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and combat climate change. The updated plan establishes new greenhouse gas emission reduction targets: 50% by 2035 and 85% by 2045. Key actions include promoting sustainable eco-friendly transportation, improving bike and pedestrian networks, installing EV charging infrastructure, incentivizing the switch to all electric systems or appliances in homes and businesses, and raising awareness about reducing solid waste and food waste. Reaching these ambitious goals will require a powerful collaboration between the City, residents, businesses, and organizations. Together, we can make the Climate Action Plan a success and create a more sustainable future for everyone!

Marine Safety’s Pink Patch Project

The Solana Beach Marine Safety Department will proudly wear pink patches on their regular duty uniforms for the entire month of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These distinctive pink patches have been uniquely designed for their involvement in the Pink Patch Project (PPP), a collaborative campaign involving public safety agencies across the nation. This vital project not only raises breast cancer awareness, but also actively contributes to breast cancer prevention and cure research. To show support like our Lifeguards, you too can purchase these pink patches and wear them throughout October and beyond. All proceeds from patch sales benefiting the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

Marine Safety Center Improvement Project:

Story Pole Installation & View Assessment Process

You may have noticed the story poles recently installed around the Marine Safety Center. These poles outline the revised footprint of the proposed new Marine Safety building and mark the start of the view assessment process for the redesigned facility. The City has begun notifying property owners and occupants within 300 feet of the site with details about the process, timeline, and how to get involved. We encourage anyone interested in this important new public safety facility to visit the site, explore the proposed redesign, and share feedback online or via the QR code on the posted signs. We're excited to move forward with this project, which will greatly benefit the community by enhancing safety and services at our beaches and add to the prior improvements made to Fletcher Cove park.

Protect Your Vehicle From Theft

As a periodic public safety reminder, the City would like to take this opportunity to remind the community to lock all doors and roll up windows whenever leaving a vehicle unattended. Criminals often look for easy opportunities, such as unlocked cars or visible valuables. Keep your belongings out of sight—this includes wallets, phones, and other personal items, park in well-lit areas whenever possible, and report any suspicious activity. For beachgoers and surfers, avoid the temptation to hide your keys near your vehicle while in the water, as thieves are aware of these common spots. Instead, consider using a waterproof pouch to keep your keys with you. These small precautions can significantly reduce the risk of theft and help keep our community safe.

National Fire Prevention Week

This week is National Fire Prevention Week (October 6th - 12th), dedicated to raising fire safety awareness and protecting homes and families. This year’s spotlight is on smoke alarms, a critical tool for early fire detection. Smoke alarms provide essential time to escape and significantly increasing survival chances by alerting residents, even when they’re asleep or in another part of the home. Properly installed and maintained smoke alarms can double your chances of survival in a fire, making them one of the most effective ways to prevent fire-related injuries and fatalities.
