Keystone-Monon Steering Committee Election


Voting for the Keystone-Monon steering committee closes April 7.


Nine residents and community leaders have stepped forward to lead the certified planning process, with an additional four seats held for future interested parties.


Those who live, work, or own property within Keystone-Monon are asked to confirm the slate through a simple majority vote.


Interested stakeholders may subscribe to the Keystone-Monon email list on the Midtown Indy project page sidebar for regular updates on the planning process.

Juneteenth Freedom Celebration Planning


The community is invited to join in planning the third annual Juneteenth Freedom Celebration in Tarkington Park scheduled for Saturday, June 17.


The event celebrates the liberation of Blacks from bondage, the many successes achieved since emancipation, and the rich cultural heritage that continues to thrive.

Activities include a youth basketball clinic, spoken word and musical artists, and community tabling.


An initial planning meeting will take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12 at the Midtown Indy office, 3965 N. Meridian Street Suite G.

NEWS AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOODS

Broad Ripple Avenue Construction Resumes


Starting this week, Broad Ripple Ave. will be closed between Guilford and Winthrop avenues for a second phase of construction. Crews will lay new stormwater infrastructure under the avenue in addition to street-level rehabilitation, lighting, and sidewalk improvements. Businesses remain accessible to pedestrian traffic throughout the process, which is expected to last through August.

KIB Keeping Midtown Clean


Thanks to a $3.78 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) is working with partners to clean up litter along busy streets and water-ways in Indianapolis through 2025.


Areas of focus include the top 20 thoroughfares identified by the Mayor’s Action Center as having the most litter and illegal dumping. Midtown locations include:

  • 38th Street
  • Keystone Ave. from 62nd to 24th
  • Fall Creek Parkway from Senate Blvd/Highland Pl to Keystone
  • Central from Westfield Blvd. to E 10th St.,
  • Capitol Ave. from Westfield Blvd. to North St.,
  • 25th St. from Meridian to Sherman Dr.

Trail Oriented Development Open House

April 5 | 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. | Broad Ripple Park Family Center, 1426 Broad Ripple Ave.

Join the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization to learn about the Trail-Oriented Development Project. This project focuses on development for the areas surrounding existing or planned trails by creating guidelines and toolkits for overcoming obstacles to assist in creating an enjoyable and vibrant area adjacent to trails in central Indiana. A short presentation is offered at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. with information and input opportunities throughout the entire event.

Meridian Street Foundation Easter Egg Hunt

April 8 | 12 p.m. | Alice Carter Place, 5700 N. Meridian St.

Join Meridian Street Foundation for an egg hunt, live bunny petting zoo, and free pizza with The Easter Bunny. This event is open to the public and free of charge.

“Why Does History Make Us Uncomfortable?” Panel

April 10 | 6 - 7:30 p.m. | Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Ave.

At a time when school districts and the Indiana General Assembly are debating restrictions on teaching materials that cover troubling episodes from our nation’s past, Indiana Landmarks is hosting a panel discussion about why our collective history makes us want to close our eyes and ears. Tickets are free for those who RSVP in advance, and a Zoom option is available.

IMPD North District Town Hall

April 11 | 6 p.m. | Zoom

IMPD Chief Randal Taylor will give a short presentation on crime trends, crime-fighting technology, and the important role the community plays in preventing and solving crime. A question-and-answer session will follow.

Dash by the Past 5K

April 15 | 9 a.m. | Meridian Restaurant & Bar, 5694 N. Meridian Street

This family-friendly 3.1 mile run or 1 mile walk takes runners by past Decorators’ Show House and Gardens homes. Each registered participant will receive a T-shirt with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place male and female finishers. Chidren ages 0 - 4 do not need to be registered. Proceeds will benefit the Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center's Behavioral Health Academy.

Broad Ripple Art Walk

April 15 | 1 - 4 p.m. | Various locations throughout the Village

The Broad Ripple Art Walk is a self guided tour of participating businesses that feature art exhibits of both local and national artists. Participating businesses are scattered throughout the Village, giving you the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful afternoon experiencing Broad Ripple and supporting the arts community.

A Musical Postcard with Demarre McGill, Flute

April 15 | 7:30 p.m. | Schrott Center for the Arts, 610 W. 46th St.

Join the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra (ICO) for a musical journey through Europe and the Americas featuring cultural dance themes. Winner of the Sphinx Medal of Excellence, Demarre McGill, joins the ICO with living composer, Kevin Puts’, Flute Concerto. Uruguayan-American composer Miguel del Aguila’s Salón Buenos Aires brings Latin flavor with creative orchestration. Bookending the evening are Falla’s Three-Cornered Hat Suite 1 and Ligeti’s exotic and unexpected Concerto Romanesc.

Bulldog Jog

April 22 | 8 a.m. | Butler Health and Recreation Center, 530 W. 49th St.

This signature 5k/10k race and 1-mile dog walk featuring Butler Blue as grand marshal raises funds for Butler student grant programs, the Indy Runners scholarship program, and IndyHumane. Registration before Sunday, April 9 guarantees a t-shirt.

  • Report street and alley maintenance concerns, missed trash pickup, or animal care concerns via RequestIndy.
  • If you've experienced or witnessed a potential bias-motivated crime, report it to the Marion County Hate Crimes Hotline at (317) 327-5314.
  • Submit traffic complaints including speeding, illegally parked vehicles, and running red lights to IMPD online.
