Greetings NENSA community,

NENSA is so proud to be a 2022/2023 Share Winter Foundation grantee!  Share Winter’s support has enabled us to enroll 7 new elementary schools in our Nordic Rocks program this year, bringing the total number of schools we serve in New England to 30.  Share Winter has also provided the funding for new equipment that features a universal binding compatible with street shoes and boots, allowing more children the chance to more easily experience the joy of skiing…at school and, through partnerships with ski centers and NENSA clubs, beyond.  Please see the full story below.

Online registration for the Mt. Greylock Hill Climb is open until 9:00 PM on Friday.  There is a growing list of skiers from high schools and clubs, college teams, the US Ski Team, and masters clubs.  This event serves as our end of season celebration with awards, a raffle, and the awarding of the 2022 Allagash Masters Cup to the overall male and female masters skiers in our series (scored on the best 2 of 3 placements).

NENSA Awarded a 2022-23 Share Winter Foundation Grant

NENSA is thrilled and honored to be a 2022/23 Share Winter Foundation Grantee. The Share Winter Foundation is a grantmaking organization working to improve the lives, health, and fitness of youth through winter sports, and their generous support helps fund our Nordic Rocks program. In addition to their generous grant contribution, they are also funding new equipment for our Nordic Rocks schools this year through Madshus and Lost Nation R&D, a setup that includes a novel binding design engineered to be compatible with everyday footwear and mounted on a universal touring ski. We are grateful to work with an organization whose mission aligns so closely with our youth mission to introduce young people to the lifelong sport of cross-country skiing, and the many associated health, fitness, and social benefits, in a fun, inclusive, and safe environment...click HERE to read the full story.

Mt. Greylock Hill Climb

Concluding Event of NENSA's 2022 Rollerski Series

The 2022 Rollerski Series wraps up November 6th with the Mt. Greylock Hill Climb. This more traditional cross country ski event makes a beautiful undulating climb to the highest point of Massachusetts. As a culmination of the competitive rollerski season, we expect skiers of all ages and are offering both classic and freestyle options for masters skiers and long and short course options for all.

Awards will honor the top Open, Junior and Masters (including prize money for the top masters on the day provided by Pastimes), crown the 2022 Allagash Masters Award winners and recognize the 2022 NENSA College Cup winner. We hope the temperate weather holds until November 7th when we can all shift our attention to gliding on snow once again!

Junior Nationals 2023

Trip Updates and Call for Staff Applications

NENSA is pleased to report that planning for the 2023 Junior Nationals is well underway and that we anticipate on the ground costs to be in line with recent trips. The New England Team will stay and eat at the Wedgewood Resort, and utilize the Organizing Committees shuttle service for the majority of our transportation. As a reminder we also have a hold on tickets for athletes and staff from Boston to Fairbanks with one stop in Seattle for $1065 (auto qualifiers from Senior Nationals should contact justin@nensa.net directly to discuss intentions and travel arrangements).

Justin Beckwith will serve as this year’s Trip Leader and be joined by veteran JN Head Coach, Matt Boobar of the Stratton Mountain School. If you are interested in joining our staff for Fairbanks please fill out this form. All U.S. Ski & Snowboard L100 (or higher) coaches are welcome to apply. The staff consists of six age group coaches and a wax staff of five. The workload of the week is demanding, yet rewarding.

NNF Invites Ski Community to new Speaker Series, First Virtual Lecture November 11th

November 1, 2022 | by Ben Theyerl

The National Nordic Foundation (NNF) today is announcing a new virtual speaker series, and invites skiers, coaches, and supporters from across the country to attend its first offering with renowned American physiologist Dr. Stephen Seiler on Friday, November 11th at 1:00pm EST.

Friday, November 11th with Dr. Stephen Seiler – Dr. Stephen Seiler is a renowned American physiologist who currently serves as Professor in Sport Science at the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Norway. He is a leader in the field of endurance training processes, and a lecturer who has been featured around the world. A compelling storyteller, Dr. Seiler uses his scientific expertise alongside an understanding of both American and European sport cultures to impart endurance training principles within their cultural context. His work on polarized training has helped develop the “5 training zone” (L1, L2, L3, L4, L5) and “80-20” aerobic-intensity rules that are common nomenclature in ski training in United States skiing today. With his background in American sport and intricate knowledge of endurance, Dr. Seiler presents on the latest thinking in an ever-evolving field crucial to success for skiers and coaches at all levels.

This inaugural lecture will be free to attend, with a recommended $25 donation going directly to NNF to support our Pillar Projects this winter, and beyond. Donation and registration for Dr. Seiler’s talk on November 11th at 1:00pm EST can be found here and here. Limited to the first three-hundred participants.

The NNF virtual lecture series serves a dual-purpose in benefitting the American ski community; offering an exceptional sport education opportunity while helping power the grassroots movement to bring the latest ideas in training and developmental philosophy to US skiing’s program. By doing so virtually, NNF has committed to making the latest knowledge in nordic skiing accessible to all those parties interested in pushing our sport, and community, forward.

THANK YOU TO OUR NENSA OFFICIAL SUPPLIERS:

Designed by NENSA's very own Youth & Introductory Program Director. Cost is $25 per hat (includes shipping and handling). All proceeds go to supporting NENSA's community-based programming and events.
