Letter from our Director - Brandon Armstrong

The 2024 year is off to fast start here in Tipton County. We have transitioned from a 6 month to a 12 month program (9 month residential and 3 months aftercare). The adoptions of the program has brought with it a group of clients who take their recovery serious and who are intentional to create an environment conducive for recovery.

Over this first quarter of 2024 we have witnessed the partnership with several organizations. 180 Degree Ministries and Daniel Hodges who has consistently shared with our guys on a weekly basis and provides support groups upon graduation.

Also, Pastor Shawn Moses (Canaan Baptist Church) initiated an interest to teach weekly and host graduation services for our clients. He remains involved in the progress of our clients.

In addition, River of Life Church in Millington consistently provides donations for our men and women on a bi-weekly basis. Donating thousands of dollars of hygiene supplies, snacks, food for our kitchen and clothing.

First United Methodist Church has provided approximately 100 rotisserie chickens this year for our kitchen manager to provide meals to our clients. They remain a constant resource for us. These partners have been encouraging and supportive every step of the way for our staff and clients.

Our partner at Express Chevrolet, Ed Doyle, with our community, has created Tipton County Community Garden. We were invited to secure a 10 x 20 lot in this garden to begin planting and harvesting with over 15 community organizations to secure fresh food for our county. Our clients will be participating in this weekly to plant, weed and harvest throughout this next season.

As we move forward this year we expect God to open more doors for our campus with our community as we build deeper relationship with our current partners and with those who have expressed interest.

Celebrating Success

We celebrated the graduation of 11 clients in the 1st Quarter here in Tipton County. These men overcame obstacles and challenges which taught them responsibility, resilience, and determination. All characteristics that are essential for success in all aspects of life, including personal relationships and professional pursuits.

We watched them be shaped into the men they are now and we celebrate their growth. We were honored to be a part of their journey and are excited to see them going home being the men that God intended them to be!

What is purpose?

Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

A thriving community is built upon a foundation of support, collaboration, and shared values. When community members come together with a common purpose and a sense of belonging, they can accomplish incredible feats. Strong communities provide a network of resources, encouragement, and opportunities for growth and development for all its members.

What an honor to have Judge Moe Echols speak at Graduation. What an inspiration he is to all of us!

Also, thank you Chief Donna Turner for showing up yet again to graduation! Here are 2 great examples of public figures that care about the people they serve. Most of the guys get to see these people in a totally different setting and usually are not too inspired.

It was an example of leadership, integrity and compassion that changes lives and these leaders want nothing but the best for everyone even in their toughest times!

Baptisms

During the 1st Quarter 5 men were baptized in Tipton County. It is a beautiful thing to see them take this step of faith and proclaim their love for God. It is a time to reflect on the goodness of God and the grace that has been extended to us.

Client of the Quarter

"Safe Harbor and its staff have given me opportunities to not just be alive but actually start living as a positive and productive citizen again; restoring, reviving, replenishing and rejuvenating me back to my true identity.

As I was going cold and dark time in my life the LORD was my guide to a place that truly represents exactly what it stands for, a place of opportunity for the Light of Jesus to be able to give us a renewed mind to know God and find Freedom. Safe Harbor has provided wisdom, knowledge and understanding through instructions from many resources that have helped me discover purpose in life again, giving us things in life only God could provide.

The staff has provided guidance, care and nourishment for our spirit, souls and bodies. We are making connections that provide support for what will come as we prepare to reenter the world. I have experienced the reviving of my soul and seen others bloom as well throughout this experience with God. Our time together has provoked the spiritual man to be awakened and become the leader.

I feel our dreams can be fulfilled through being exposed to the lives of those who support us. We have learned to trust the process as hope is being restored. Together with my peers we are discovering what God is doing in our lives and there is a great expectation of the future." - K.G.

Staff of the Quarter - Billy Rickard

Not only is he a golf enthusiast, he feels the same about his job. Mr. Billy Rickard carries the expectations to produce exceptional results each day. He also cares deeply about and carries the weight when those results are not happening.

I see him want our clients to succeed more than they want to many times and that passion for helping men become better, is what fuels him to become better as a man and employee for Safe Harbor.

Lets recognize Tipton County's staff of the month, Mr. Billy "Fairways" Rickard.
