Friends,
Before we jump in this week I want to extend my sincere gratitude to our Director of Safety Strategies John Bandemer and the entire team of public safety partners he works with across downtown for their handling of Tuesday's emergency alert situation. John was able to immediately spring into action to find out as much detail as possible to share with the broader downtown community. It was certainly a stressful situation for everyone, but a great reminder of how our efforts to streamline communication between public safety partners continues to evolve and improve.
On Wednesday, City Council officially approved the use of $500,000 of federal grants to demolish the Public Safety Annex adjacent to Pedro Park. The Downtown Alliance is actively advocating for the City to identify additional resources to ensure that the soon-to-be vacant lot is swiftly developed into a reimagined Pedro Park.
This week I also had a chance to sit down with KARE 11 to chat downtown visitor trends and welcome the opening of Apostle Supper Club. You can watch that below to learn more. We stopped by Apostle yesterday afternoon for happy hour and were delighted by the mid-century vibes and A+ cocktails. Stop by for a drink at the tiki bar!
The Star Tribune published a quick interview will Bill Lindeke this week that I enjoyed. While not specifically about downtown this time, Bill always has great insight into how we can collectively keep pushing to improve our city. Keeping reading as well for more news from around downtown this week. Did you know that 15% of the metro's top burgers are within throwing distance of downtown or that SIX has returned to the Ordway? All this and more below.
Take care and enjoy the weekend!
Joe
