Dear River Forest residents,

On Monday night, the Village Board approved a contract for a consultant to perform a Village-wide traffic study. The study will include the collection of data throughout River Forest and provide recommendations on traffic calming measures.

Pedestrian and cyclist safety is a primary concern for the Village Board, and we are committed to finding solutions, as evidenced by the recently approved temporary improvements in the northeast section of town.

The Board is also focused on helping residents save money by cutting down on water waste. WaterSmart, the final phase of the Village’s modernization of our water metering infrastructure, is now available to residents. WaterSmart is an online software product that allows residents to monitor water use and receive leak alerts. Registration for this service is free and easy. Visit the WaterSmart website to learn more.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and fun Halloween. Remember trick-or-treat hours are on Monday, October 31 from 3 - 7 p.m. Please remember to be safe out there and view Halloween safety tips here.

Sincerely,

Cathy Adduci, Village President

Leave the Leaves

Leave the leaves this fall! According to The National Wildlife Federation (NWF), leaves left in flower beds help wildlife and the environment during the winter. Many insect and animal species rely on leaf layers that form natural mulch - providing plants with a protective blanket during the colder months. They also conserve water year-round, and enrich the soil! Learn more here.

Green Your Halloween

Green your Halloween by taking your pumpkins to the Pumpkin Smash at Roosevelt Middle School on Saturday, November 5. This event is made possible by Green4Good and Lakeshore Recycling Systems between 9 a.m. and noon. You can compost your carvings in River Forest at the corner of Oak and Jackson avenues. Please remove candles and decorations. For additional locations, click here.
