Senior Pastor's Note

Rev. Dr. Carolyn Stephens

Dear Saint Mark Family,

Let me first begin by saying how glorious a day Sunday was. My heart was full when I drove away from the church. I was trying to explain to someone my experience of our Easter worship services, and I likened it John Wesley’s “I felt my heart strangely warmed” experience. Sunday was glorious.

I must say thank you to the choir and the bell choir for their beautiful offering of music, and to Justin, for his superb directorship of the choirs.

I must also say thank you to all the greeters and ushers who worked tirelessly to welcome and seat members and guests at the services; to Amy and the altar guild team that worked behind the scenes, in the days prior to Sunday, to ensure the liturgical paraments were in place; to David and Jeff for the beautiful Easter flowers in the sanctuary and the beautiful Easter Cross; to Dale and his team who prepared the delicious brunch; and to every member who took on the challenge and invited family and friends to our Easter services.

Thanks to the staff, for their tireless commitment to doing the work of ministry and supporting the life and fruitfulness of Saint Mark.

On Sunday, May 5th, immediately following the 11am service, we will have a congregation-wide volunteer luncheon to express our deep appreciation for the work our volunteers have done, in any way or form, to support this great church. Everyone is invited to this luncheon. Saint Mark could not be who we are were it not for each you and your love for this church.

I want to remind you that there will be a congregation-wide General Conference listening session after the second service this Sunday. It will be held in the chapel. There will also be another listening session during our Wednesday night supper on April 10th in Wade Hall. Everyone is invited to come out and learn more about what is General Conference, and how the decisions that will be made there can affect our church. As a precursor to these meetings, here is a link that will give you a general overview of what is General Conference and what part we play in this body.

I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday.

You are Easter people!

God’s grace and peace,

Pastor Carolyn.
