This February, we're spotlighting The Monkey Bridge II, a family-owned and operated restaurant that offers delicious South Vietnamese cuisine. While the Pioneer Square location has only been open for half a year, the Nguyen family has been in business and running restaurants for over three decades.
"The food that we serve are dishes that us newer generations of the family have eaten since we were young, cooked by our parents and grandparents," says son and manager Quoc Nguyen.
In the early 90's, Quoc says his parents owned a restaurant called Viet-Chi on 1st Ave and Cherry St. In the early 2000's, they had to leave that location and eventually opened a space in Ballard. That location has been open for 16 years. Last June, the family finally returned to Pioneer Square and opened Monkey Bridge II. This restaurant not only pays homage to their 16 years of success in Ballard, but also celebrates the return to Pioneer Square, where the Nguyen family's journey with food started.
The restaurant has recently added many new dishes to the menu, making it a perfect stop for lunch or to bring your family for dinner. Enjoy modern favorites, such as teriyaki and fried rice. Or try traditional Vietnamese delicacies, such as clay pot basa catfish (cá kho tộ) and steamed rice rolls with Vietnamese ham (bánh ướt).
Come by The Monkey Bridge II on February 7th and 8th to celebrate Tết or Vietnamese New Year. Get a 20% discount on your order and homemade sesame balls.
