All Rise: A Festival of Film & Law
Monday, October 14 - Friday, October 18
CSU's School of Film & Media Arts, in collaboration with the CSU College of Law, proudly announces the return of All Rise: A Festival of Film & Law for its highly anticipated third year.
The festival will present a carefully curated selection of films that delve deep into the complexities of the legal system, highlighting how film serves as a powerful medium to reflect on justice, ethics, and the human condition. Each screening will be followed by insightful panel discussions featuring legal experts, filmmakers, and guest speakers, designed to provoke meaningful dialogue about the societal impacts of law.
Monday, October 14 - A short film showcase curated by George Elias Stephanopoulos, media attorney and producer. The event will be followed by the opening night reception. Screening starts at 5:00 PM at the Westfield Studio Theatre.
Tuesday, October 15 - Screening of Kemba followed by a panel on race, gender, and criminal justice, with Kemba Smith, author and prison reform activist as special guest. Screening starts at 5:00 PM at the Moot Court Room/ CSU College of Law.
Wednesday, October 16 - My Cousin Vinny presented by the CSU Student Filmmakers Club. Screening starts at 5:00 PM at the School of Film & Media Arts Screening Room.
Thursday, October 17 - Show Her the Money with a panel on venture capital and economic justice in partnership with CSU Weston Ideation Lab and CSU College of Law. Screening starts at 4:00 PM at the Berkman Hall Auditorium.
Friday, October 18 - Closing Night Film & Reception: As We Speak with special guest, Sam Widdoes, producer and entertainment attorney. Followed by closing night reception. Screening starts at 5:00 PM at the Westfield Studio Theatre.

13,000 Years of Native American History in NE Ohio: A Talk for Indigenous Peoples' Day

The arrival of the first peoples to Northeast Ohio some 13,000 years ago marked the beginning of a long and enduring Native American presence. For over 150 years archaeologists have been studying the prehistory of Northeast Ohio in order to examine and investigate the native peoples who called this area home. Dr. Wanyerka has been investigating the ancient prehistory and spectacular cultural achievements of these prehistoric peoples since the 1980s. Please join him as he presents an illustrated lecture on the prehistory and archaeology of Northeast Ohio.

This event is an interactive engagement that encourages the use of public speaking and interpersonal communication skills by introducing students to a panel of individuals in the field of education and encouraging productive conversations about past experiences and remedies to current and anticipated problems encountered in the field. In addition to learning about resources that can assist a student with achieving their career goals that are related to becoming an educator, it highlights how teachers, counselors, and school administrators work with a variety of other professionals to increase the potential of students' readiness to enroll in college.

Show Her The Money - Film screening

Featuring rock-star female investors who invest in diverse women entrepreneurs with innovations that will change the world, Show Her The Money reminds us that money is power and women need it to achieve true equality.
The film follows four visionary founders as they endure uphill battles to turn their ideas into reality. Despite their dedication and passion constantly being challenged, these women, with the financial support and mentorship of their angel investors, become even more determined, resourceful and resilient, and the growth of their businesses is mind-blowing. Each business has the potential to become a “unicorn” … a billion-dollar business.

Grilly Adult Development & Aging Speaker Series is bringing special guest Susan T. Charles Ph.D. from the University of California Irvine to present on “Healthy Aging: Prioritizing Social Connections” discussing age-related changes in socioemotional experiences, how our social emotions, thoughts and behaviors are related to our emotional, cognitive and physical health, and how socioemotional processes represent the strengths of aging that balance age-related vulnerabilities.

These tickets are for Friday, October 18th at 8 pm. Nightmare Cleveland is located in Parma, Ohio (7460 Brookpark Rd) and is a 15 minute drive from campus. Transportation will not be provided. Take your chances and don't let the ghouls get you at Nightmare Cleveland!

CSU Parking and Transportation Services is excited to host their 9th annual Food for Fines campaign starting October 14 through November 15, 2024.
Pay eligible parking citations issued from July 1 through November 15, 2024, with a donation of PEANUT BUTTER!
During the campaign, customers can pay their parking citations with a peanut butter donation. Paying citations with peanut butter has a dual benefit for the university community, as at the end of the campaign all donations will be delivered to the Lift Up Vikes! Resource Center & Food Pantry. Lift Up Vikes! is CSU’s on-campus Student Resource Center that helps students reach their full academic and personal potential by providing access to healthy and nutritious food, as well as other necessities.

2024 CSU Student Veteran of the Year
The Division of Student Belonging & Success and CSU Veterans & Military Student Success Center is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2024 CSU Student Veteran of the Year!
The nomination period is September 30, 2024, through October 14, 2024. A nomination review committee will review the nominations and notify the selected student by October 21, 2024. The selected CSU Student Veteran of the Year will be recognized by Cleveland State University and invited to the City of Cleveland’s Veterans Day ceremony at City Hall on Monday, November 11, 2024. Please see the nomination criteria below.
- Nominees must be current CSU students and veterans or active-duty service members.
- Nominations should highlight the nominee's outstanding leadership, academic achievements, and contributions to the CSU community.
- Nominations must include a brief statement explaining why the nominee deserves this award.

Comming Up -- Game Jam!
The CPT's 24-hour Game Jam is happening Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26 in Washkewicz Hall 222.
Ready to showcase your creativity, teamwork, and skill in game development? The Computer Peer Teacher's fourth bi-annual 24-hour Game Jam, a highly anticipated game development competition during which students create a game from scratch in just 24 hours, is scheduled for October 25th and 26th.
Competitors must stay for the duration of the competition—the entire 24 hours.
