It’s hard to believe that I have gotten to work and do ministry besides you all for almost three months now! Lent and Easter were a holy whirlwind, and I am grateful for the guidance of the worship committee, the help of worship servers and broadcast team members, and the faithful attendance of you all for making this first season of ministry so meaningful (and smooth!) for me. I hope you, also, felt the Holy Spirit moving with fresh energy in our community throughout these past 40 days.
One very clear way I saw the Holy Spirit moving was in the abundance of the Easter Punch Reception! I wasn’t sure there was going to be energy for having a big gathering on Easter morning, but the sign-up sheet was overflowing, and we had a fantastic time! The Holy Spirit is drawing us together to reconnect, and I love it!
With this busy worship season in the rearview mirror, I will have more time to dedicate to new administrative projects in the upcoming months. Easter is a time for resurrection, and spring is a time for refreshing and renewal, so here are a few of the special projects in the works behind the scenes:
1. Noris and I are working on a website redesign that will modernize its look to be more appealing to newcomers and be easier to edit and navigate.
2. Arianna Rose and I are working on refreshing our social media accounts. Make sure you follow @LutheranChurchoftheCovenant on Facebook and Instagram, if you participate in social media. Due to social media algorithms, every time you “like,” “comment,” “follow,” and “share,” we can reach more people through online platforms to tell them the awesome news of God’s love!
3. Noris is creating an updated church directory that will be available to you soon.
4. We are in the last phases of updating our church constitution. More information about how the congregation will finish that process will be available soon.
Renewal is happening around the church in other ways, too!
Jo Ann and Roger Rudy have spread new mulch around the property and tended the gorgeous plants there.
Tom Pennington and several other property folks have been re-envisioning the wiring system for broadcast team to prevent tripping hazards at the back exit of the sanctuary.
Thomas Yearsley, newly made a staff member at LCOC, has helped enrich worship through musical contributions by the church choir and Mikell von Kolnitz on cello during Holy Week.
The Evangelism Committee is brainstorming new ways to engage the community, particularly college students at Northern Virginia Community College- Woodbridge campus.
…and these are just a few!
The Easter season is a time of resurrection. Liturgically, we have seven weeks to celebrate Jesus’s reign as risen king! I hope you can see the ways in which we, at Lutheran Church of the Covenant, are being resurrected by Jesus, too. We are called for a purpose, and refreshed and renewed by the Holy Spirit!
Easter blessings,
Pastor Grace
