St. Johns County Celebrates 250th Anniversary of William Bartram’s Historic Visit to Florida with 2024 Bartram Living History Fest

On Saturday, May 11, the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department, in coordination with the St. Johns Cultural Council, will hold the 2024 Bartram Living History Fest at Alpine Groves Park, this year commemorating the 250th anniversary of naturalist William Bartram’s historic visit to Florida.

Explore the estuaries of the intracoastal with St. Johns County park naturalists who will teach you about the diverse wildlife of the marshes.

A program designed in partnership with Veterans Affairs to provide military veterans of all abilities the opportunity to kayak through St. Johns County waterways.

Specialty Summer Camps

Archery Camp

June 24 – 28, July 8 – 12 | 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Kids from 11 to 15 who are ready to tap into their inner Katniss or Hawkeye can learn the fundamentals of archery, bow hunting, and bow fishing.

Exploration Camp

June 3 – 7 | 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Kids will enjoy an engaging week filled with outdoor explorations, attending field trips every day and participating in kayaking, fishing, beach cleanups, and more.

Girls' Fishing Camp

August 5 – 9 | 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Campers get to take fishing gear out on the water and learn safe boat-handling skills, how to use tackle and live bait in freshwater areas, how to clean and cook fish, and more.
