A Note From Our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

And just like that here we are in April, and I think our first, second, and third winters are behind us! At MDNA we don’t skip a beat but are thrilled not to have to traipse through snow and ice in order to provide our special brand of home care to our neighbors on MDI and in Trenton and Lamoine. We have had many highlights this winter, including serving our first patient on Swan’s Island. You may have seen photos of our clinicians’ beautiful commute on our Facebook and Instagram pages! We also are now the only home care agency serving MDI and the islands, which strengthens our resolve and commitment to helping patients remain healthy at home. I am also very excited to welcome Kyla Baxter, a new occupational therapist, to the team! Our esteemed Board of Directors and I believe growing our team is critical to our ability to serve the needs of our community. Though this does create additional expenses for us, with the humbling support we receive from our donors, we felt able to make this leap. The need is there in our communities, and we continue to make adjustments to be ready to serve! Thank you for your continued support of both our Fall and Spring appeals, and our 75th Anniversary Capital Campaign and I wish you all a warm and wonderful season ahead.

Amy McVety, Executive Director

Thank you for coming to our 2nd Annual

Chowdah Fest & Silent Auction!

Our second annual Chowdah Fest was a hit! Over 110 people joined us at The Neighborhood House to taste chowders from twelve MDI restaurants and bid on a Silent Auction of twenty artworks from Maine artists. Congratulations to the winners, LUNCH (People's Choice Award) and Harbor Table (Judges' Choice Award).

Thank you to our sponsors, David W. Lewis of Edward Jones, The Nor'Easter Pound & Market, and Bangor Savings Bank. We can't wait for next year!

AOTA Inspire 2024

by Katie Verville, Clinical Manager

AOTA, The American Occupational Therapy Association held their annual conference in sunny Orlando in March. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to attend and network with other Occupational Therapy practitioners. Over three days, we explored new horizons, shared invaluable insights, and fostered connections that will resonate in our practice and communities. At the AOTA Inspire Exhibit Hall, I discovered new companies and products to better support our patients. Two of the sessions that I attended really stood out to me: “Evidence-based Medication Management" and "The OT’s Role in Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults” as we are always strive to have a complete emergency plan in place for all our patients. One of the highlights of the conference for me was a session with 90 year old gentleman who has been working as an Occupational Therapist for 68 years! This profession has grown immensely over the years, and it is something I feel very proud and honored to be a part of. Happy OT month!

In case you missed it, here are some photos Nurse Pam took on her way over to Swan's Island last month to see a patient.

Can't beat those views!
