Concerts for Wellbeing and Rejuvenation:

Thalea String Quartet at the

Southwest Regional Senior Center

As part of expanding our programming to reach more communities, our Concerts for Wellbeing and Rejuvenation are already making a positive impact. While in Chicago for a performance on the Dame Myra Hess Concerts, the Thalea String Quartet gave a performance at the Southwest Regional Senior Center. The concert was a collaboration with Rush University Medical Center - Department of Social Work and Community Health.

“The seniors were thrilled to hear the soothing sounds of classical music live at the center” said Jewell Wilson, Regional Director, Senior Services Division – Area Agency on Aging. “We received so much positive feedback after the concert. Many of our senior center participants have never attended a classical music concert. The questions and answers segment was a wonderful gesture.”

More than 65 people were in attendance for the performance.

The Thalea String Quartet is the Doctoral Fellowship String Quartet at the University of Maryland. Winners of the 2021 Ann Divine Educator Award from the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the members of the Quartet have been celebrated for their innovative approach to education and community engagement. The concert was enjoyed by all.

Keep an eye out for future programming on our website and in future eblasts.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT:

Hedy Ratner

Hedy Ratner first discovered Classical Music Chicago by attending CMC’s Rush Hour Concerts. Since that time, she has been a supporter of the organization. Ratner developed her love of classical music as a student in the Chicago Public Schools through outreach programs. Subsequently, she took up piano lessons and eventually studied music education at DePaul University. Hedy credits her early music exposure to her appreciation today. She loves classical and chamber music and looks for every opportunity to attend concerts.

Ratner is committed to CMC because she believes in its mission of making the joy of classical music accessible to all people. She also believes that “beautiful music soothes the soul.” Hedy donates to CMC, in part, because of the pleasure and comfort it gives her. “I get so much from CMC, I would like others to have the same experience.” CMC is grateful to Hedy for her support.
