Welcome to Quilting News
April 2023
Message from Lisa
How is it April already? Well it just is. Lots has happened since the last time I wrote my newsletter. Retreat was really great and lots of fun. We visited the Rusty Crow in Nags Head and gave Shawn a crow quilt from our group. We even had lunch with the crew from The Wicked Tuna show while down there. Even the little green guy came and visited us in the middle of the night. What a surprise we had in the morning.

We had a great barn painting class in March and our field trip with our wool group was a fun day of learning new things we can do with our hands. So get your calendars out and mark down all the things you can do with Shining Star for April and May. I will be away the first full week of June to my happy place in Beaufort, NC. Find a place to connect with us and join right in.

Remember to tell your friends about me and my quilting services. You will get a 10% discount on your next project and your friend will also get 10% off her first quilt. Word of mouth is the best way my business grows. Thanks in Advance.

Excited for all the new things happening at Shining Star! Trixie and I will see you very soon.

Lisa

Do you like to sew for charity? Do you like to sew with friends? Come join our new group of quilter's who have a passion to make items and give back to the community. We will be using the conference room at the Firehouse, 1956 Urbine Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. We start at 9 AM and sew until 3 PM.

Our next meeting is April 8th. Starting at 9 am. Please bring your machines. We will have a few blocks to sew for our 4th Firehouse quilt. But you may want to pack a project of your own to fill our time. Dues are due at $25.00 if you have not already paid. Hopefully we will present our two quilts to our Habitat family at our May meeting.

At our March meeting we made Cat/Dog beds for the local shelters. We made over 100 beds that have been donated. Thanks to everyone who helped with this project.

Future Projects:
April - Firehouse Quilts
May - Heart Pillows for NICU Units.
June - Service Quilts
Wooly Friends Group
Welcome to a very new and special group of ladies. Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 18th. Doors open at 9 AM. This group has room for more people. So if you have wanted to learn how to do wool projects or where to start, then you need to be at our next meeting. We are going to open this group up to also include Punch needle and rug hooking. I think we have many more people who can join our group now. It is a place to learn new things all the time. We had a wonderful time on our road trip to Notforgotten Farms in Amherst, VA. The Owner is Lori Brechlin and she opened the shop up just for our group. She has Wool, Needlework patterns, Threads, Rug hooking, and Cross stitch. She is opened on Friday and Saturdays if you want to take a road trip. It was a great day for a drive! Thanks Phyllis for arranging our trip.

Future Projects:
April - Work on a project of your choice
May - Work on a project of your choice

Lisa now has a Sissix cutter and a few dyes. Just let her know if you want to use one during the meeting to cut something.

New Favorite Wool Site: Old Tattered Flag. I just love all her stuff and thanks for sharing this location with the group. We now have several of the dies.
Crafter's Yardslae
The Richmond Quilt Guild is hosting the Crafter's Yard Sale this April on the 15th. The location is at:
Transformation Church
6000 Iron Bridge Road
Richmond, VA 23234

It will be located outside this year in the parking lot. So make sure you dress for the weather. Bring lots of cash as you will find lots of great deals. I will be having a spot myself. Time is from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM. Carpool if you can to make room for more shoppers. Share with friends......
Retreat Memories from March
I work all year to plan for a great week at Beach Retreat. I just don't think I can top the last years retreat, but I think I did a great job this year since we were there for St. Patrick's Day. All of the ladies had a wonderful time this year. Our weather could have been a little warmer, but we made the best of each day we had there. Until next year... Keep on quilting.....
Quilters Daycare Group
Quilter's Daycare is a Thursday sew group. Please make sure that you slide over and make room for everyone that wants to sew. We have an additional room that can hold only 4 sewers. We want everyone to feel welcome. We have missed many of you. Your $5 covers your seat charge each Thursday. See you soon! Reminder the door opens at 9 am, not earlier. (I'm with mom getting her up and ready for her day)
Prayers for many of our quilting sisters.....
We continue to keep Jan H. in our prayers as she continues her chemo treatments. We have many to add. Our friend Lynah G. is currently in the hospital at Duke undergoing cancer treatments and then a Hip replacement. I bet you she will be up and walking really soon. We keep Joy Y. in our thoughts as she recovers from a fall at retreat and hurting her foot which she has a boot on for a few weeks. We are very glad to hear that Jane E. had a successful back procedure and is slowly recovering. We keep Bonnie B. who had a procedure to her heart in Idaho and that it was very successful and she is feeling much better now. I know there are many people who have daily challenges with life and we hope that you can heal and move forward. Thanks to everyone for their support and prayers for our quilting community. We are a great group of ladies!
Thank You!
We have a new Purple Bag for our quilting customers. Please bring a bag with your project that you are dropping off. Thanks!
Payment is accepted by Cash, Check, Venmo, Zelle or Paypal.

See you soon! Trixie and Lisa
