A look back and a look forward for you, our faithful Snowlion Rep supporters!

Three Great Projects,

New and Exciting Venues!

Since the loss of its theater during the pandemic, Snowlion Rep has scrambled to find places to present its new plays and musicals for Maine audiences. In 2023, THREE AMAZING PROJECTS graced the stages of five different venues, including the iconic Boothbay Opera House in Snowlion Rep's very first venture as the Boothbay Summer Theater!

A Christmas in July celebration was held at Meetinghouse Arts (Freeport), The Hill Arts (Portland) and the Opera House (Boothbay Harbor), showcasing our gorgeous Dickensian musical The Christmas Bride. Performed as a concert, this musical outing was met with "loud applause and shouts of approval from the audience," according to the Boothbay Register. "In Victorian England, 'some pumpkins' was slang for something really impressive. Snowlion Rep is some pumpkins!"

Next, a funny, heartrending and eminently timely workshop of Pat Mew's play The Right Thing to Do was performed at South Portland's Mad Horse Theater. This story of betrayal, moral ambiguity, and professional disgrace follows three college professors accused of sharing pics of bodybuilders during the Pink Scare that followed the ravages of the McCarthy era, forcing the accused to grapple with what exactly is the right thing to do. A standing ovation followed harrowing performances by the large cast of talented Portland theater veterans.

Finally, Snowlion Rep teamed up with The Public Theater in Lewiston, only days after the tragic shootings there, to present a respite from sorrow by inviting audiences to spend a warm and wonderful evening with famed character actress and Wicked Witch Maggie herself, in My Witch: The Margaret Hamilton Stories. The performances were met with grateful audiences who delighted in reminiscing about old Hollywood, "that movie," and of course, the environs of Maine that Ms. Hamilton called home.

In fact, that show was so well received that Snowlion Rep will once again present My Witch in 2024, this time under the banner of the Boothbay Summer Theater, and just a few miles north of Cape Island (pictured below) where the play is set and where Margaret Hamilton spent her summers!

This time the show will be performed in June at the Carousel Music Theater right in downtown Boothbay Harbor, during the region's celebration of all things nautical, Windjammer Days. Snowlion Rep is thrilled to bring a new project to the Boothbay Summer Theater roster!

What's Ahead for 2024

Along with our new production of My Witch as a Boothbay Summer Theater project, Snowlion Rep will debut a workshop production of a new play by Al D'Andrea, Faust in the Anthropocene, in Spring 2024. This exploration of mankind's contemporary crises features wisdom tales from the Land of Snows woven together with familiar characters from both the Faust legend and our own troubled times. Be sure to read our newsletters to keep abreast of this groundbreaking and startling new work!
