Principal's Message

Dear Miramonte Community,

Our annual Homecoming Week is nearing completion with the Homecoming Rally and Football Game today, followed by the Homecoming Dance tomorrow. Please encourage your child to attend these events and be sure to give lots of props to Ms. Porter and the Leadership students for all their hard work this week! You can always view our school activities and upcoming events on our school website, and our athletic schedules on www.GoMats.org.

I am excited to announce that MatsNation, the official Miramonte High School Alumni Association that was started last year, has hit 500 members! MatsNation is bringing together alumni, parents, staff, students, and community partners to reconnect with each other, and support our entire Miramonte community. The Miramonte Alumni Association is made possible by volunteers and with generous support from the Orinda Network for Education (ONE). Please pass the MatsNation info along to any alumni you know, and let us know if you want to volunteer to help us grow our alumni network!

Have a great weekend and see you at the Homecoming football game tonight at 7:00pm!

ONE-Miramonte Fundraising

In a recent meeting, AUHSD Superintendent Dr. John Nickerson explained how the formula that the state uses to determine funding for schools leaves Miramonte with the lowest level of funding in the state. Lamorinda brings in just enough in property taxes that our district retains that money to pay for local schools. When there are more home sales in Lamorinda, the district has more money to spend, and less when home sales are slow.

This formula leaves AUHSD with roughly $18,000 a year per student to spend on all academic classes and programs. For comparison, the Piedmont district has about $22,000 per student and Palo Alto has $30,000 per student.

The AUHSD school budget for all schools is about $100,000,000. If AUHSD had the same level of funding as Palo Alto, our schools would have an additional $68,000,000 per year to spend on student education! Imagine what more our district could do with an additional $68,000,000 per year!

This is why local schools ask parents to donate  — the schools are sorely underfunded when compared with similar districts in our area! Parents are asked to contribute to maintain robust academic course offerings and engaging programs. While parents can’t make up the $68,000,000 difference between our area and Palo Alto, we can provide funds to maintain the academic excellence that all students deserve.

If you haven’t made a donation to ONE-Miramonte yet this year, please consider doing so today! Your contribution is vital and will be put to good use this school year.

Counseling News

Schedule Changes

The deadline to drop a class without it appearing on your transcript is Friday, October 11.

Seniors

  • Counselors are beginning to meet individually with seniors to discuss post-high school plans!
  • If your senior is applying to college, they can begin requesting transcripts via MaiaLearning.
  • Please have your student contact their counselor immediately if they are applying EA or ED to a school.
  • Consider attending the Academy college application workshops in the College and Career Center. Students can sign up using TeachMore.

Students who received a D, F, NC, or NP in a graduation required course should contact their counselor to see if they are eligible for remediation through a FuelEd course. Remediation is important if your student wants to maintain UC/CSU eligibility.

Cal Grant gives funds to every eligible senior who meets the requirements. AUHSD will electronically submit information for every senior in the district to the California Student Aid Commission so they may be considered for a Cal Grant. If you do not wish to have your student’s information submitted electronically, please complete the opt-out form with our school registrar, Kyley Jacobs, by Friday, September 27.
