This week we take a look at the Scriptures that we will read on Reformation Sunday. The Reformation started the reshaping of the Church.  Today we continue that practice of reshaping who we are as we faithfully try to proclaim the love of God to the world.

Jeremiah 31:31-34
In this passage we receive, once again, the assurance that God will put the Word in our hearts so that we may know God fully, living forgiven and empowered lives in response.

Tuesday, October 25
Psalm 46
Too often, when we are in the midst of the storm in our lives, we forget that God is with us. This Psalm reminds us that God is our strength, our refuge, and our help. If you are experiencing a storm in your life right now, take time to be still, to breathe in the presence of God, and KNOW that God is with you.

Romans 3:19-28
Here is the heart of the Reformation! We cannot make ourselves right with God through works. We are brought into a right relationship with God through the Cross, the death of Jesus Christ. That gift of grace is what reconciles us to God. This gift of grace liberates us from the power of sin and empowers us to live out our faith in Jesus Christ

John 8:31-36
Truth and freedom…isn’t that what we all seek? Jesus tells us that we can find both in him as we continue in his word.

Martin Luther summed up this week’s Scriptures best.
Dear God,

We thank you that you love us so much that you were willing to die for us. Thank you for restoring our relationships with you. Thank you for empowering us, through your Holy Spirit, to love you back and to love others as you would have us love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
