Outcomes and Indicators Implementation Cohorts
This past fall, we had over 100 educators participating in Outcomes and Indicators Implementation Cohorts. Building on the success of these regular meetings, ACPE wants to provide opportunities for additional collegial engagement and consultation for many more folks and the opportunity to share resources and ideas.
Beginning in January, cohorts will meet twice a month for three months. We hope that this regularly scheduled time will allow educators to block their calendars and join in conversations related to the implementation. Please note that limited spots are available, so sign up soon!

Spiritual assessment is one of the most important parts of a chaplain’s job. It is also the foundation for effective spiritual care and communication about that care with other members of the health care team. Your participation will help us have a better understanding of the state of practice regarding chaplains’ spiritual assessments. It will provide an important starting point for our efforts to improve our assessments, spiritual care, and integration of our spiritual care with our health care colleagues.
This online survey should take approximately 6-10 minutes to complete.
If you have any questions or have trouble accessing or completing the study, please contact Paul Galchutt, MDiv, MPH, BCC

Most chaplains and chaplaincy students describe themselves as versatile, able to offer spiritual care to adherents from any tradition or none. But recent research shows in many cases, that is not how they are perceived by the people to whom they offer care. When a chaplain goes into a room and introduces themself as “chaplain,” prospective recipients of care often hear “religious figure,” not “spiritual care provider” or “versatile spiritually informed professional.”
Since March 2022, the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab has been engaged in research about public perception of chaplains. With support from Templeton Religion Trust and in partnership with Gallup, Inc., we asked how the general public understands chaplaincy, how many U.S. adults have interacted with a chaplain, and what those interactions were like.

Prayer for Automation
Oh Lord,
You have given us
hands to create--
just as your hands
created us.
And we are thankful,
oh Lord,
for the gift of
creation and creativity.
And also--
Sometimes--
We would like to not have to have our hands involved in the transmission of information.
We would like to have that happen through the beautiful ether that connects one computer to another
in space
and time.
Grant us, oh Lord,
the wisdom,
the discernment,
the vision
to see how to make those connections
So we can do other things
with our hands.
And may the glory be yours
as it should be.
Amen.
