The (Giving) Circle of Life

What are "Giving Circles"? It's when individuals come together to create the change they want to see in the world---by forming or joining a giving circle. This way of giving enables people to increase their impact and knowledge, have fun, and connect with their local community. Collective giving has exploded in popularity, growing to more than 2,000 circles with 150,000+ people joining over the last two decades, reports a group called Philanthropy Together.

Grapevine, for example, is a community that comes together with the common goal of giving back on a recurring basis. Whether it's a small group of friends, a block of close-knit neighbors, or a team of professionals rallying around a cause, Grapevine is one giving circle hub that makes it easy. The group started The Grapevine Giving Circles Network to further the Grapevine mission of democratizing and diversifying philanthropy. Through the Network, everyday people (like you and me) can connect with each other and support underfunded causes, communities, and organizations that they care about.

If you want to connect with like-minded people to make a bigger difference together, visit the Grapevine Giving Circles Network page and find the right circle for you! The numbers are impressive: 72,200 Grapevine group members, 4,300 nonprofits supported, and $33,000,000 in total donations to-date. Read about Emily Rasmussen and Grapevine here:

A Tip for Nonprofits: Founder’s Syndrome happens when charismatic leaders of nonprofits are unable to let go or grow. This person or group of people has often founded the organization or saved it from the brink. Yet over time, they are unable to evolve to meet the changing needs of their organization—leading to conflicts, power struggles, and internal dysfunction. How do you combat this debilitating disease?  Read about the ten steps here: Ten Steps to Overcome Nonprofit Founder’s Syndrome - Funding for Good

A Tip for Donors: Something I just learned about, which I think is very exciting: Give Blck is now Giving Gap---the "largest free searchable database of Black-founded nonprofits in the United States." Sort by causes, or sort by states---you won't be disappointed. Browse here: Largest, searchable database of Black-founded nonprofits | Giving Gap

A Tip for Professional Advisors: A talking point with clients: Ever wonder what the top charitable causes are in each state? Well, Vanguard Charitable just posted a graphic to its LinkedIn page that is quite insightful. It's more of a tapestry of colors than you might think! See the graphic here: (2) Post | LinkedIn

"We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are always there for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you."
