ADDS TOUR DATES FOR 2024

Iconic singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright is ending 2023 with a flurry of activity. Wainwright recently was nominated for a Grammy® for a third time in the Best Folk Album category for Folkocracy. That album sees Wainwright collaborating with the likes of Brandi Carlile, John Legend, David Byrne, Sheryl Crow and Andrew Bird, Madison Cunningham among others interpreting a wide array of folk songs.

Wainwright with his sister Martha will be hosting their annual Christmas shows, “A Not So Silent Night” to take place December 22 at Town Hall in Manhattan, and “The Night Before” to take place December 21 at Murmrr Theatre in Brooklyn. Special guests will include Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Sean Ono Lennon, Loudon Wainwright Roche, Sloan Wainwright, Jenny Muldaur, Chaim Tannenbaum. The shows are put on to raise money and awareness for the Kate McGarrigle Fund for Sarcoma Research. Both shows are sold out.

Two network television appearances are coming up. First will be an appearance with Martha on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on December 19. Then, on December 21, he will be among the stars saluting the career of the legendary Dick Van Dyke for a primetime CBS special Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic. On top of the television appearances, he will be taping an episode for the syndicated radio show eTown with Madison Cunningham.

2024 looks to be just as busy, starting with the Grammys® awards on February 4. The next month, on March 26, Opening Night, a musical by Wainwright will make its debut at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End. The play is based John Cassavetes’ film of the same name, stars Sheridan Smith and is directed by Ivo van Hove. Additional cast includes Hadley Fraser, Shira Haas, Nicola Hughes, Amy Lennox, and John Marquez.

Wainwright’s Dream Requiem will premiere in Paris on June 14 with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under the baton of its music director Mikko Franck. The requiem features Lord Byron’s poem “Darkness,” which describes the end of the world after the 1815 volcanic eruption of Mount Tambora on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa. The poem, chosen for its theme of apocalypse as fuel for social change, is interwoven with the traditional Latin Requiem Mass to great effect. The co-commisioners are Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Palau de la Musica Barcelona and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, RTE Orchestra Dublin, Royal Ballet London, Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
