Seeking Your Input for Our Upcoming Sermon Series on Discernment

One of the most common and most challenging statements in Christianity is the statement "this is God's will" or “it is the will of God.” We see an example of this in Romans 12:1-2, where the Apostle Paul writes "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." In this passage, what does the Apostle Paul mean by will of God and how are we to discern that?

This May we will be starting a new sermon series, The Quad: Discerning Difficult Decisions. This series will focus on discernment - how we approach making tough decisions in challenging situations. Each week we will use the Wesleyan Quadrilateral to work through a difficult decision.

My hope is this series is as relevant and helpful as possible, so I would love to hear what topics and decisions you struggle to make the most.

Specifically, I would like to hear from you about:

·       What are the biggest questions and challenges you face related to discernment?

·       Do you struggle with knowing how to discern God's will in a particular situation?

·       How do you deal with conflicting opinions or opposing viewpoints when trying to make a difficult decision?

·       Are there specific life situations where you have found it especially challenging to discern the best course of action?

Just a friendly reminder that this Sunday, March 24th, there will not be children’s Sunday school. Instead, we will be having our Easter “Eggstravaganza” at 9:30 a.m. outside near the playground, followed by the Teeny Tiny Farm. Children’s Church check-in will begin at 10:45 a.m.

We are currently looking for additional volunteers to help hide eggs in the playground and surrounding areas on Sunday, March 24th at 8:30 a.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mandy Midgett at mandy@oakgroveumc.org

Additionally, on Easter Sunday, we will be hosting an “Easter Carnival” during the 11 a.m. service! Check-in on Easter will begin at 10:45 a.m. for the children in the Children’s Wing.

We are also thrilled to announce that our 5th graders will be transitioning into our youth program this June! Starting this Sunday, March 24th, 5th graders are welcome to join Sunday School in the middle school classroom right next to the BASICS classroom. We are so excited for this new chapter and can't wait to see our young ones grow and learn in our youth program.

We look forward to seeing you at these special Easter events!

Dear Church -

The O.G.'s (our beloved Young Adult Ministry) met Tuesday night for our St. Patrick's celebration. We had food, stuffed Easter eggs for the children's ministry, and had fun playing "minute-to-win-it" games. Our evening ended with a little history on St. Patrick and a body-prayer based on the Breastplate of St. Patrick. I invited you to make your own hand motions to do as you say this prayer out loud.

Christ with me,

Christ before me,

Christ behind me,

Christ in me,

Christ beneath me,

Christ above me,

Christ on my right,

Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down,

Christ when I sit down,

Christ when I arise,

Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear that hears me.

Amen.

Blessings & grace,
