Put Safety at the Top of Your List

It's Simply Not Worth It: A 2023 report from the California Highway Patrol found that drivers ages 20 to 39 have the highest proportion of distraction-related fatal crashes. Don't be another statistic!

Friendly Reminder:

The I-10 Desert Rehab Project Team would like to remind all motorists to please remain focused on the road ahead when traveling to your favorite destinations. Any and all phone calls, texts, and notifications can wait. That being said, if you must divert your attention to something other than driving, we urge drivers to consider stopping at any one of our amazing rest areas along the I-10!

Project Background

The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13-mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
