DISTRICT MISSION: The mission of the Cedarburg School District is to provide an exemplary education that challenges students in a nurturing environment to develop into lifelong learners, to become responsible adults, and to achieve their goals and dreams.
From the Superintendent
Dear CSD Parents and Families,

I trust this newsletter finds you and your family well. December and the approaching new year are always an exciting time, especially when you are with family. From a school standpoint, the end-of-the-year holiday parties create an aurora of festivity that is genuinely contagious. Our students have participated in countless events in the last few weeks. This month, I had the opportunity to watch some of our elementary, middle, and high school students enjoy a concert provided by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in our own Cedarburg Performing Arts Center, attend the performance of our high school choir at a Cedarburg-Grafton Rotary Club luncheon and witness the CHS Jazz Band, A Cappella and Bella Voce choirs perform for the Thorson Elementary School fifth graders.
Our students at all levels have been involved in many other community-based activities this holiday season and have truly represented our community well. Each of you should be proud of our students!

As we all look toward the start of a new year, I would like to continue the practice of highlighting two specific examples of what makes the Cedarburg School District community such a special place. The first is the most recent Wisconsin State Report Card for the Cedarburg School District and the second is the significant donations made to the district each year.

As was celebrated in last month’s newsletter, we received another exemplary school report card from the State of Wisconsin. The 2022-23 Report Card recognized the Cedarburg School District and all our schools as “Significantly Exceeds Expectations.” This is the district's third consecutive year all five schools earned that rating and a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers, staff, students, and families.

In addition, I am continually overwhelmed by the community's generosity to the Cedarburg School District. As of the December school board meeting, the Board has approved $53,069.80 in donations this school year. This amount does not include the funds the Cedarburg Education Foundation raised through its most recent Bulldog Gala. All these donations have been and will be used to provide classroom supplies, new technology, and many other projects that support our students' learning. Thank you, Cedarburg!

Wishing you all the best during this holiday season,

Dr. Jeridon Clark, Superintendent
A Few Highlights ICYMI (in case you missed it)
Kindness Retreat

Funding through a Get Kids Ahead Grant, Westlawn 4th graders were excited to take part in a "Kindness Retreat"! It was run by Youth Frontiers and CHS 11th and 12th grade students to help facilitate the groups. The day included games, music/dancing, teamwork challenges, and small group discussions! So much FUN!
CHS Alumna Speaker

CHS students in Block-Based Programming and Text-Based Programming classes were excited to welcome a guest speaker today, former CHS student Abbie Pigatto (Class of 2019). She is currently a Software Engineer for Wells Fargo in North Carolina. She spoke to the classes about courses she took in high school, her college path, and how she got to where she is now. She explained what she does as a software engineer and the differences between the different computer science careers that are out there.
Students also had a visit from the CSD Tech Dept. to describe a little bit about what each of them does and how it affects our students on an individual level. Students learned about the physical hardware that is around the school. Students also got to "play" with broken Chromebooks and explore the insides of a computer.

MAKER Spotlight
Each Cedarburg school has a dedicated makerspace and team of maker leads. The mission of each makerspace in the District is to cultivate student learning dispositions that equip our students to use the design and engineering process to problem solve, investigate, and create. Our makerspaces include equipment to support students through the design and engineering process, including 3D printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, sublimation printers, and more. Each school's Maker Lead Team consists of teachers and administrators who contribute to the implementation of maker-centered learning, creating learning experiences for both students and staff. Here are just a few of those projects:
Bubble Wands
CHS Global Mathematics class has been busy using the 3D printers and sublimation printer to create and produce designs - all using math equations in GeoGebra!
Cell City Projects
Webster’s makerspace was buzzing with 7th graders as they worked on their Cell City projects. Many students used 3D printers to create models for their cities! Science teacher Kendal Sass says, “The overall collaboration needed for this to be successful was amazing!”
Holiday Take and Make Gifts

CHS staff created holiday greeting cards this week using the AxiDraw. AxiDraw is a writing and drawing robot that Mrs. Masslich uses in her Global Mathematics, College Algebra, and other math classes. Students get to create designs on Desmos, using equations of lines and conic sections. Then, they are able to use the AxiDraw right after they have finished their design to complete the project.
The Westlawn Maker Lead Team partnered with the Westlawn Sunshine Committee to create holiday gifts for support staff. How cool are these laser-engraved mason jar lids?!
Parkview 5th Grade Team created bookmarks and ornaments using the 3D printer and Mr. Keller created personalized cutting boards for his 5th grade teammates as a holiday gift using the laser engraver.
Illuminate Ozaukee
This year, three CHS clubs are participating in Ozaukee Nonprofit Center's ILLUMINATE OZAUKEE 2023 — a drive-thru celebration of the holiday season and our community at Zeunert Park in Cedarburg. CHS Coding Club and Robotics Team partnered up and are located in plot #13 and CHS Tech Theater is located right next door in plot #15! Check it out for Illuminate Ozaukee’s last weekend this Friday and Saturday from 5-8 pm! VOTE CHS! Click on the image to see the lights in action!
